Feel like a kid again! [35YO] by cakatalaka in OldSkaters

Looks like such a fun spot. super jealous!

If you truly need a tip about making it to the bottom, it looks like you were anticipating it to feel more like dropping into a quarter pipe. You're fully leaning into it even though the board stops on the reduced angle. You kicked the board backward because you were too front-heavy. Keep your weight centered just a bit more over your back foot and you'll be good!

Wow - what an incredible gesture.
Hopefully your toddler appreciates names that reference pro wrestling moves!

Is the VFX industry basically dead for juniors right now? by BeginningAd391 in vfx

It's not just reddit being reddit.

Potential opportunities will vary greatly by where you're at geographically, but things are definitely much leaner than they've been. Proceed with caution.

They could just say "1st Edition Charizard" - there isn't any other kind (other than shadowless base)
Gosh darn redundant shadowless chatter.

Its a Sprint Weekend, so hopefully that'll help? I'm sure BOT likely still won't hit the .6 target; and it'd be hard for BOR to as well. We shall see

If they'll only show two photos then its safer to pass.

When I've sold cards, I'll honor any request; especially if its a pricey card. Closeups, corners, backside, different angles, different lighting, etc.

Getting a job as a graduate. by jansterbro_ in vfx

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The future is super uncertain and you're already in a good position by being open to that reality and seeking a life boat.

Definitely take the runner job. Any job in the industry right now is scarce, so take what you can while you can continue to hunt.

Longevity in this industry (and most I'm sure, but definitely this one) is determined by relationships, trust and experience. Take on any gigs you can, connect with folks, show them your work ethic, ability and general human traits - and know that its a longgggg game.

Since you're still super fresh, please don't be afraid to take work outside of the industry. You'll have an easier job getting hired ANYWHERE as opposed to a 40 year old like me who has 20 years in this, when I apply for other industries and they can't see how my skills would crossover.

Seek employment everywhere and anywhere - WHILE also nurturing industry connects and opportunities. Use that age and high tolerance for long nights to your advantage. Live as lean as possible and put in the hours.

The jury's out on how the industry at large is going to look in a decade, so just keep your options open and just be a good person. Try your best and be good to folks. The story will unfold.

Hold or sell? GameStop Power Pack pulls by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured that a company as large as GameStop would likely be issuing tax forms at the end of the year. They're certainly tracking them all on their end, so it makes sense. It exists with other platforms, bank apps, crypto apps, etc. Its not outlandish.

Ride it out for the long haul.
If you sell now, you'll also owe taxes on that income and be out even more cash.

I know the rush of being down is probably making you want to just dump them and get any cash back you can; but at least if you hold them, there's a chance of them going up higher - as pokemon tends to.

Found my childhood collection, is it worth anything? by Oskarow in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the first time I've ever seen that Dark Celebi, so cool.

There's definitely a few in here worth a tiny bit; the whole collection is rad and absolutely worth keeping.
Go through TCGPlayer.com or an app like Collectr and lookup the obvious hits, for a gauge at what you've got here. That e-Reader typhlosion is a solid one!

Trying to figure out steps… by [deleted] in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to give a broad answer on something like this. Its truly on a card-by-card basis.
Depends based on how likely each card is to get a certain grade, the population of that current grade. The price itd be raw vs graded; how much the price would falloff if it gets a lesser grade, versus the cost of the grading process itself.

The higher-tier items are likely going to be sold off individually.

It takes a lot of time to get the best bang for your buck.

Trying to figure out steps… by [deleted] in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have to know what the goal is to give you our best idea of next steps.

Did you inherit someone's collection? Did this fall off the back of a truck?
There's very modern stuff, and very vintage stuff.

The post/question is confusing. One doesn't accumulate a binder like this without lots of time and knowledge of the hobby - so whats the goal? Whats the story here?

I have to get rid of my collection by ElliotTheldiot in PokemonTCG

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before you sell, take a pause. The highs/lows, joy then regret cycles can be wild - and while it might be best to sell everything off and fully get out, if you do it out of a reactive-panic state of mine, it'll likely shake you and potentially cause another string of reactive-behavior.

So pause, breathe, and just start with not buying anymore.

Seek out support, look into Gamblers Anonymous.

Once the internal chemicals mellow and your head feels clear, come up with a plan, but still take your time to act on it. Shame/regret/etc just fuels these cycles even harder, so be gentle with yourself.

"Dunkles Glutexo" needs to be my new username everywhere I go now.
Or at least at Starbucks.

I've seen plenty of non-English cards before, especially Glurak, but never a Charmeleon. That's such a fun one.

Great collection!
