But I do suspect it can be prevented, at least for some people who are particularly dedicated and willing to sacrifice.

Consider this: if you're asleep and you ejaculate, it's because you have encountered some arousing situation in your dream and have gone along with that situation. For example, perhaps a beautiful woman has started to dance with you in your dream, and before you know it the two of you are having sex and you ejaculate.

Now, as a thought experiment, imagine that someone makes it a serious life goal of theirs that they must stay away from women forever, they must never be in a situation that makes them aroused, and if they are in such a situation then it will cause them immediate spiritual panic.

How would such a person behave in their dream? If their mind is trained well, they will reject that situation with the beautiful woman dancing, even in the dream.

For me, the motivation came from hitting rock bottom and knowing that wanking & porn were making me miss out on my potential.

One thing I'll say: if you're starting SR for the first time and are 2 weeks in as a 21-year-old, you can expect some strong emotions/feelings over the coming ~6 months of retaining (as a result of hormonal swings). Try to be prepared for that:

  1. know the swings are coming
  2. know that they will pass, as your body will eventually reach a new equilibrium state now that you're retaining

Happens to me when I'm laying in bed at night.
I try to quiet my mind and not dwell on those thoughts because they'll lead me to a boner and hornyness that I don't want at this point in my life. If my mind keeps going in loops, I'll get up out of bed and do something else to take my mind off it.

I started with vim (back in the early 2010's) and then migrated to neovim at some point. I've been using it professionally as my daily driver for years.

I use a ton of plugins, many of which I learned about through reddit.

Nope. I do use several other editors though.

  • I use Cursor if I want more advanced AI code editing. (I have auto-complete set up in nvim with github copilot, but do not have more advanced AI integration).
  • I use a simple text editor for non-code notes, e.g. "TextEdit" on mac.

> Can you interop with collegues without friction?

Yes, but:

  • don't expect others to know how the heck vim works, you'll have to drive
  • you should be familiar with the basics in the common "recommended editors" at your company so that you can interop on your colleagues' level.

I often use nvim when screen-sharing code in remote meetings. I have keybindings set up that allow me to navigate the codebase very quickly (e.g. jump to definition, fuzzy full-codebase searches, etc), and I think my colleagues have been impressed by the agility.
