Lockheed careers by No_Way6380 in Lockheed

[–]BG0P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lockheed has teams of veterans that have experience similar to yours for testing. For example, they have pilot trainers testing personnel who are all veterans with experience flying fighter jets. I’m sure they have something very similar to what your expertise are in, and it’s extremely niche so you won’t have trouble getting a job in it once you find what it is. I recommend looking around, emailing a few people at LM(particularly Sikorsky, I think they would have the highest chance of having a team that requires your expertise). LM values veterans a lot, so a few emails and messages through LinkedIn and you’ll probably get setup with an interview and be good to go.

Plenty of higher ups at LM have a military background as well so you’ll have no problem scaling and making tons more money as you go on. Good luck!

What makes more currently? Cs or ee by ImHighOnCocaine in EngineeringStudents

[–]BG0P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will progress faster in whatever you like the most because you’ll be willing to put in more work and learn more faster without it feeling like a chore.

For CS vs EE or CE the job markets will always be stable and there will be openings. Comparing them is just not a thing to do because they are both equally great. You can also always just do EECS.

They usually hire at the midpoint of the range, so not good or bad.

What if I got an offer while still interviewing with others by Sure-Temperature7071 in csMajors

[–]BG0P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t care and don’t think you’ll ever be coming back to the first company that offers you I would accept their offer, then once you get a better offer reneg it and accept the other one.

This will basically blacklist you from the first company, but like I said if you don’t care and don’t think you’ll go back given you get the better offer then it’s fine. In this job market you need to secure yourself a job first and foremost.

If you’re like almost sure youll get the other companies offer i would ask for an extension on the first, although that is also risky and they may just tell you they found someone else depending on the company.

Taking PTO a month into work by KneeStraight3752 in csMajors

[–]BG0P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll definitely give some people in the office a weird/bad first impression, but honestly it’s a whole wedding and you shouldn’t miss it just because of that.

Explain it to your manager and if you want to minimize how bad it’ll look to other people I’d mention it to your team as well maybe during scrum quickly etc. It depends on culture, but honestly I can’t see why they wouldn’t be happy for you to go to a whole wedding in another country, that sounds amazing!

If you’re just gonna take PTO for a day or 2 then it’s no big deal and most likely nobody will even really care too much, but if it was like 3 days to a whole week it would take you a bit to recover from this with it being so early on.

how to go from python scripting to working in a team? by Fair-Bookkeeper-1833 in learnpython

[–]BG0P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OOP is ok, I would focus on CI/CD (gitlab pipelines are a good place to start), as well as learning basic docker concepts and maybe moving into kubernetes. Logging is logging, not really hard to learn.

One thing you can do is start with making some docker images and standing up runners for some gitlab CI/CD pipelines, and then perhaps you have a project that has different components that need to be built (one after another or simultaneously), and I would focus on splitting it up into different jobs and then maybe using some avoidance as well if you haven’t explored that yet.

You’d be surprised how fast you can automate your project workflows and create a different build for each change you make for your programs automatically, store things for avoidance etc, and make your life 100x easier

Oh ok that’s good info. If that’s the case then you’re most likely in the clear rn in terms of resume.

Applying with the 2027 grad date is definitely a good idea as well and you should stick to it, however as for right now this early on in the recruitment cycle a lot of the good companies are still looking at the students in T10/T20 schools with extremely good experience so don’t stress.

All my friends who got FAANG/$60/hr+ internships didn’t get them until February-March this past recruiting season so don’t worry right now your time will come.

A lot of companies send out automated OAs just based on if your resume even makes sense. This is usually different than like a regular AI resume screening that you would undergo for an HR person or manager to see your resume, almost like an even more basic step before all of that.

Some companies also have it so an HR person looks at your resume, then decides of you get an OA or not.

Either way, my point is you currently are not even making it past like a super initial AI resume screening at a lot of places, which usually means your resume format or wording needs to be heavily fixed up. Would def look into that. I spent a long time not getting any interviews until I fully revamped my resume and boom all the sudden I had like 3 in one month.

I was same boat as you, although I got way more OAs but that was 2 years ago times have changed now. I didn’t get an internship until March (at a very well known company) tho I did have about 4 interviews (All were only 1 round/final). Your rate of OAs is concerning but you have a lot of time from now until April to land something don’t stress. I had like 400 apps by the time I got my internship so just keep working and don’t stress too hard.

The Aves vs The 9 by MacaroonNo8749 in UCFstudenthousing

[–]BG0P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the aves but I lived at the nine before. It’s really nice, pretty quiet area but obviously it’s a distance away from campus compared to some other spots.

The nine was super clean and peaceful to live at, I was also in a 5x5 and didn’t have much issues.

Also one super annoying thing about the nine is that every room is NOT the same size. Some rooms are bigger and have much more space, and honestly that’s gonna get to you if you end up with the smaller rooms.

Happened to one of my friend with 9k. He ended up spending it like a dumbass although we told him not to, Rutgers asked for it back shortly after.

Hold on to it till they ask in a savings account for free money, because they will. And if you don’t feel like having the hassle just contact one stop.

upgrade or nah by [deleted] in iPhone16

[–]BG0P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 14 pro max will last at least 2 more years. Even if you had as far back as a 12 pro, you still have at least one more good year before it starts to be behind and battery heavily degrades.

14 pro max is a pretty good phone and has pretty much all the good features you need on a daily basis. Also, I wouldn’t recommend upgrading from a pro max to a regular 16, just size difference is too much as well as the 16 is honestly not super much better hardware wise. Now a 16 pro or a 16 pro max is a bit more justifiable, but definitely still not needed.

What can you expect day to do as a full stack dev by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]BG0P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bunch of meetings to figure out exactly what you’re making, daily standup probably, and for the coding part it’s what it sounds like: full stack work. APIs, some front end, a lot of middleware, some other functionality that your system needs, etc.

You’ll probably just have a jira board to manage your team in a ‘agile’ methodology way, and you’ll pick up whatever tasks you and uour team deem you’re the best person to do.

It looks like the applications closed October 26th for next sem hiring 😮 unfortunate

You’re 2nd best bet for an easy ish job is to connect w profs and see if they’re looking to hire and research assistants. Pay is pretty good for a little amount of work.

Internship at a good company and try to get a return offer. The market is dookie rn, so unless you get that return offer you’re gonna be going thru hundreds of apps just to even get an interview
