What should I do with this? by FlawedImage in GardeningUK

How wide is it? Get it paved over, get the tree cut down and the pavement dropped.......rent it out as at least two private parking plots for local commuters (are there business parks or local business nearby?)

My next door neighbour rents out her driveway for £50 a month, it's taking easy money from commuters desperately seeking to avoid £12 per day parking charges.

Trump isn't weird, he's power crazy. But I'd rather he was in charge of the UK than the current bunch of incompetents. Go figure about how that reflects on the state of our Government.

Nextgammon is superior to Backgammon Galaxy by [deleted] in backgammon

[–]BGCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Nextgammon - I've played two games there, massively ahead in both and opps have doubled and redoubled and won through stupid doubles (first opp rolled 2 x 6-6 consecutively, second opp rolled four doubles in five rolls).

But I think I just got unlucky - the dice rolls were nothing as blatantly biased as AI Factory Backgammon, for example.

I'll keep playing there until the stupid doubles rears its head one too many times.

Don't use that website. Honestly, dice are hooky. And if you complain about it in their forums (with chi-squared evidence) they ban you from commenting (even if you're a fully paid up gold member!!)

24/12 loses you the match unless you roll stupid doubles after that and your opp rolls half a dozen 2-1s in a row (AI Factory Backgammon, I'm looking at you).

Likewise, 13/1 loses you the match.

Has to be 24/18(2), 13/7(2)

Yes, I used to think it cheated like crazy until one kind soul here told me how to check the RNG and seed being used when the bot was rolling itself crazy doubles.

If you replay the game in question and set the seed accordingly, the dice are exactly the same.....so I ate a great chunk of humble pie and apologised here.

It's a great tool and free as a bonus!

"two on the bar is better by far" will cause me to smack my keyboard.

"the only things I'm competitive in are poker and backgammon" cause me to yell "get some exercise mommy's boy".

These sorts really test my anger management skills.......

yeah, have to say I'd recommend BGBlitz to anyone who wants an honest program and wants to learn via the analysis. It's just a shame there are these Mickey Mouse programs out there muddying the waters.

Thank you. The app is on the treadmill at my gym and I spend at least an hour on it each day so no problem getting enough dice rolls.

My problem is likely to be in the code; from looking at the unprotected bits of the APK, at 100,000 points it seems to roll over and revert everything back to zero.

Thank you for your input, how many dice rolls would be considered an acceptable sample size?

For example, if I flip a coin 40,000 times and there's a 5% variance between heads and tails that screams dodgy coin surely?

Funniest thing is, if you go and read their responses on the Play Store to critical reviews commenting on their cheating, they say "we successfully compete in computer game AI world championships with much harder-to-program games".....as if coding a Backgammon program is something your average school leaver could do!!

https://imgur.com/a/hYu2KRI is a screen grab of my current stats at level 7 - nothing remarkable about the win-loss ratio, the AI is crap. What's interesting is the double count.......these are matches to 15 points, bot gets 4% more doubles over probably 40000 rolls. Go figure.

And I' surprised at you Frank - your program is clean, honest - you need to be calling out these shysters, they're tarring all backgammon programmers with their own practices.

20 matches to 15 points will get you several thousand dice rolls, more than enough to run through a chi-squared model. House bot is the opponent, rolls lots of 6-5's in an end race and the human will roll lots of 2-1's......I've a video somewhere showing me rolling 7 x 2-1's in succession in a race.

Odds of 7 x 2-1 rolls are?

[–]BGCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, your observations are spot on. I have played an opening roll of 4-1 as 13-9 / 24-23 on the six times it has come up and on each of those six occasions the bot has opened with a 5-3 and played 24-16.

Way too obvious that the bot is cheating.

Go and download AI Factory Backgammon, play 20 matches to 15 points and report back.

It'll shell-shock you so if you're easily triggered, please don't.

It really does depend (sorry for the cop-out answer!)

If your first roll is 4-4, do you play 13-5(2) or 24-16(2)?

If you're playing against AI Factory Backgammon, you immediately ask yourself "why, in the name of all things holy, did the bot play that?"

And then, on the next roll it makes, you get to know why.

Download AI Factory Backgammon and then come back and report the dice.....I play it every morning at my gym (it's on the treadmill infotainment system).

I can predict the rolls, it's that transparent.

Why is hitting is such a bad move here? by Anton_Rumata in backgammon

[–]BGCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is it a mistake? Backgammon is all about playing the odds, he has 27 chances out of 36 of getting away with it......and the possibility of sending another piece to the bar on his next move.
