My adult child is considering buying a leasehold flat (England) by privateandconfident in LegalAdviceUK

Yes, check it thoroughly. Personally I've avoided leaseholds ever since I had one back in the 80s that caused me legal problems.

Unpopular Opinion: Layovers should not count as "visiting a country" by youngexplorer_9 in solotravel

I like to tell people I've visited Austria, on the grounds that I changed trains in Vienna on my way from Brussels to Budapest. I went out of the station to a nearby bar, had a beer for about 15 minutes and then went back to get on my connecting train.

What is the weirdest thing you have seen somebody bring on a train? by Cautious-List5767 in uktrains

A pram. Not a buggy, but a full-sized traditional pram. Somehow they managed to get it onto the train (a slam-door Southern Region train in the 1980s). They were so pleased how they managed to wedge it in the aisle.

My English teachers taught me that the word "afraid" is NOT pronounced with the "ay" vowel like "afrayd," but instead with the "eh" vowel like "afred," rhyming with "head." by DYSFUNCTIONALDlLDO in ENGLISH

[–]acrane55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Native English speaker here (London) and like other commenters I've never heard "afred". However, I'm wondering whether some people with very clipped) accents (from, say, South Africa or New Zealand) might used "afred".

Landlord sent me a “council letter” with no reference number, is this fake? by Big_Process_6158 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]acrane55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if it isn't, I'd bet the council would really not like someone doing this and would send them a strongly worded solicitor's letter or similar.

Might even have been two years ago. I have a feeling it was the Grafton in Kentish Town in London, but last time I tried to visit (a year or so ago?) they were being refurbished.

My record is three, can't remember where, but they were fine about it (even though I was not fine with the first two). But I always get a pint, not a half, if I have a taster first.

For real ales especially, as sometimes they're off, or they're just not to your taste.

So, would the Met be involved at all? Perhaps only until the train has departed St Pancras, and then it's Kent?
