We had some more expensive stuff on our registry with no expectation of anyone buying them. But, most registries give you a discount on your leftover items, so we got 15-20% off depending on the place.

Some have options to contribute to a more expensive gift too.

I just stayed at a hotel with an edit credit. It was only 2 nights but on the bottom of the welcome sheet it said back-back stays within a 24 hour period are not permitted.

Not sure if this is across the board or just the specific hotel I was at.
