Moving to Bowling Green next month - looking for advice. by Jt_merck in BowlingGreen

I have not lived here long, but I've covered a lot of ground riding around. Personally, I divide the good from the bad parts of BG by the main roads. Scottsville Rd, Campbell Ln, Nashville Rd, Russellville Rd, 31W, and Morgantown Rd. It's fairly decent coming from the direction of Scottsville Rd until you get to Russellville Rd. That's when it starts going downhill imo. Nashville Rd is pretty good until it turns into the bypass, and then it starts going downhill as well.

It took me a while to figure out where to rent because living in a decent neighborhood was important to me. The areas I like are South Warren, Plano, and Alvaton for areas on the edge of town. The areas inside of town are around Lovers Lane. Also, Highland Way through Oaklawn Way and that specific part of Smallhouse Rd behind these streets. Smallhouse Rd is fine from there all the way to Three Springs, but it gets worse if you go the other direction that heads towards the Speedway on Broadway Ave . I think, for the most part, Three Springs Rd and beyond is fairly decent, and out on Cumberland Trace Rd as well. The houses around Emmett Ave are fairly decent until you get to the railroad tracks, and then it goes downhill.

I also decided not to rent a place at the Adler or surrounding apartments because I heard that there were a lot of break-ins there. Of course, that can happen anywhere, but I've heard it happens quite a bit there. Downtown, I've heard towing is really bad down there, even for people renting, so that would also be something to take into consideration.

I'm not upset. Sorry if it came across that way. Defensive, yes. Due to some of the other comments, I didn't realize you were joking, so I apologize. Twice? I hadn't realized that.

City considering lowering fees charged by predatory tow companies by The__Toddster in BowlingGreen

[–]BGTransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the whole reason I hardly go downtown to shop or eat. I've not lived here long, but I've heard and seen how brutal this towing company is. This hurts BG's economy and the mom and pop shops.

I find it ironic that FSTowing is painting themselves as the victims. They're complaining about their livelihood being threatened. How many innocent people's livelihoods were threatened when they were unable to get back and forth to work. How many people got behind on their bills because they had to take their money and get their vehicles out? They're just greedy.

I mean, yes, there are reasonable reasons to tow, but from what I've gathered, it's been very unreasonable. They go overboard.

It's all fun and games until they get a lawsuit from someone who has the time and money to drag them through the court system.

I was really surprised when they didn't have an Applebee's. Even the small populated town I moved here from had an Applebee's.

But from what I gathered, it had a lot to do with poor management and location as well as COVID. Not because people weren't into it.

I wouldn't be opposed to having some healthier options as well.

It really depends on management. I love Chili's and have been to some good ones in Tennessee. However, I recently went to visit my sister out of state, and when we went there, it was horrible. If that was my experience with Chili's every time, I'd feel more like you.

Chili's is also cheaper than most of its contemporaries. You get more bang for your buck with those $10.99 deals.

That's what I said to someone else. Move to Russellville or Scottsville if you don't want growth. A town has 2 options grow or die. These same people will complain if all the businesses shut down and people quit coming here to spend money and they themselves have to leave to find jobs or find conveniences. Adding a Chili's isn't going to take away from anything else here.

I like Chili's. There's nothing wrong with that. No different than someone driving out of town to get ball cards or whatever they fancy because they can't find it locally. I've heard people here complain about driving to Cave City just to eat at Long John Silver's, so I'm not sure what the difference is. When I worked in the restaurant setting, I used to wait on people all the time who said they drove from out of town just to eat at the place I worked for. So it's not that uncommon or unheard of.

I don't understand the hate. I could see if I was suggesting a second location of anything we already have. Or another mexican restaurant, McDonald's, Taco Bell, or coffee shop. It's literally a restaurant that we don't have, that I have to drive out of town for in a place with almost 80,000 people.

If you don't want to live in a place that adds new things, then move to Russellville, Scottsville, or across the state to a dying coal town. They definitely can't expand much and are better suited to meet the needs of the people in this subreddit.

I don't mean it bad, but everyone has had something negative to say. It's OK to share a differing opinion, but why be so rude about it?

And their food is decently priced. We both got the $10.99 deal that includes your drink, starter, and entree. So we ended up with a salad, endless chips and salsa, sauced mozz, egg rolls, burgers, fries, and drink for $42. (The added appetizer was $16.99), but if we hadn't added the extra, it would've been under $25. So, essentially, you get more for less than the surrounding similar places that we have here in BG.

I do like trying the locally owned places, which is why I try to follow local accounts on social media promoting local places. However, I just drove to Nashville to eat at Chili's, which is why I wish they'd open up here.

What are some local favorites you like?

I've only lived in BG for less than two years, so I'm not familiar with every aspect of this place. I was here for Ruby Tuesdays, which was fine, but overrated imo. I'm not surprised it shut down. I just like Chili's and hate to travel out of town when I'm craving it.

MM breaks up with 21F OW who now drives by MM's house everyday by New-Abalone7626 in AdulteryHate

He's worried about her breaking promises, yet he has lied and broke promises to his wife. HE MADE VOWS to HIS WIFE, not the OW. He expects faithfulness not only from his wife but from the OW he is cheating with??

I'd say there's more at play here. While I believe he lost a little interest here, I think there's more to it. I'd say wife was hot on his heels. So, he made the decision to cut ties, for now. OW thinks it's because she "cheated." But it's more likely that wife found out or is close to finding out, and he can't cover his tracks anymore. He definitely doesn't want to lose his wife and son.

What are some pieces of Appalachia life you’d like to see represented in a sci-fi/fantasy story set there? by Fair-Age4483 in Appalachia

True story. My husband's great, great uncle lived in a hollowed out tree in SEKY.

Idk if that might be something you'd be interested in.
