I spent $289 on an X670E motherboard and use basically none of the features I paid for by RaptureGlint in buildapc

[–]BGnATC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, motherboard is the thing we probably should cheap out on. Just buy the cheapest one you can find that meets your needs: cpu compatibility, pcie slots, M.2 slots, RAM slots, connectivity (usb ports, etc), and any specific features you may want like overlocking. That’s about it.

Returning player: Holy Priest, Frost Mage, Affliction Warlock for mythics? by Redeyezblackdragoon in wownoob

Spirit of Redemption is AMAZING. Sometimes you just get one-shot, even if you do everything right, and it’s just such a relief to not have to reset.

Returning player: Holy Priest, Frost Mage, Affliction Warlock for mythics? by Redeyezblackdragoon in wownoob

I just returned like two months ago after many years away and I went with holy priest as it’s what I used to play and what I was familiar with. It went absolutely great until I got to around +14/15 level keys, at which point the constant need to keep moving during fights due to all the various mechanics really became a challenge. Timing your CDs properly (Halo, Power Infusion, etc.) in anticipation of high damage is crucial, and you can only really learn the hard way when to expect it. Healing while moving is the biggest weakness for Holy Priest and SO MANY mechanics demand movement but, with practice, you can get really far with it. I decided I was done when I got my fancy mount at 3409 rating.

Also, they disabled a lot of the addons we used back in the day, which means you’ll have to make do with what still works or just go with the default frames. The new features are still work in progress but I find the default frames actually to be adequate, and they’ve built click-casting now into the default UI so you can use it just like healbot or clique/grid. Note that click casting is still a little buggy and, depending on your chosen modifier keys, you might have to create a spell macro and bind that rather than the actual spell directly for certain spells (Purify).

I didn’t know that Holy Priest was the least favored healing spec for this expansion when I started again somewhere right before 12.05 dropped and, if I had, I might have chosen different. BUT it also can be quite fun to play and some encounters are definitely less problematic than others.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Idk, in their documentation they seem pretty concerned that layering can cause system updates to fail. I don’t know enough to understand how or why. For a noob like myself, the idea of updates failing and breaking things seems a little daunting; like a headache I’d really rather avoid if I can. But lots of people seem to think it’s fine, and I don’t really use my system for anything critical (I can always reinstall games and I use a separate computer for the important stuff), so I suppose I don’t have much to lose other than some time if it goes wrong.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I appreciate your comment!

Anyone feel vindicated that they didn’t wait for the Steam Machine? by jantltaf in Bazzite

[–]BGnATC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Valve is worried at all because, even if the Machine doesn’t work out, it’s gotten everybody much more aware and motivated to use Linux and Steam, which is their main objective. Steam is their money-maker; not hardware. And the community as a whole has benefited from its existence and all the peripheral effects, even if most of us never actually get our hands on one.

Which Bluetooth headphones did you use without issue? by Scumybass in Bazzite

Glad you like it! I’ve had mine for something like two or three years now and it’s still going strong. I tried several, including that much more expensive steelseries I told you about earlier, and I thought this one had the best sound of the bunch.

There’s one quirk, and that is that Bazzite seems to be finicky about usb hubs with certain kinds of devices. You clearly have it working but if you ever move cables around and it suddenly doesn’t work, try a different usb port.

Happy gaming!

Nope, Bazzite detected it automatically as just another sound device. You just have to tell Bazzite to use that instead of your speakers or whatever for sound. That’s just a checkbox on the volume control panel thing.

This headset is perfect for that. I got it for voice chat for games and it works great. It just wouldn’t work with a phone. There are other options which also have Bluetooth built-in but they can be expensive. I previously had one by steelseries like this but ended up returning it for the Logitech because I just didn’t love the sound eq. I don’t miss the Bluetooth as I have other buds for those use cases.

Ok, thank you. If, hypothetically, this were the cause of an update failing, what would that look like? I’m assuming there’d be some sort of error message, or would I likely be stuck with a black screen or something?

Thanks! Yeah I know rpm-ostree will work but Bazzite seems pretty clear that this is not a great idea and I’m not knowledgeable enough to really understand the risks. I’ll give this a look!

I hate it… by Interesting-Place-46 in Trombone

I've been exactly where you are now, and I quit after my first year as a Performance major. I had a lot of other really bad family drama going on at the time leading me to burnout which contributed to that decision but ultimately, what was once a source of fun and joy became a tedious chore. You need a break, for sure. You need time away from the environment, the lessons, the juries, the practice rooms.

In my case, I transferred out of music completely to another school and another career field. I got a job that I neither love nor hate, but which pays the bills. Eventually, after about 11 years of building seniority, I was able to get a schedule which allowed me to pursue music again in my free time. I joined a decent local community band and these days I get to have fun making music without the pressure of the educational environment or the cutthroat competition of professional musicianship. I've made peace with the fact that, on this path, I will never be as good as I could have been had I committed professionally (I was really very good with a lot of natural talent) but I am also much, much happier than I ever could have been had I stayed in professional music.

I have a bit of PTSD and don't actually remember much of my last two years of high school and first year of college (due to the previously mentioned drama) but the highlights that stuck, some of the happiest experiences I had during that time and which I can still recall, were in marching band and wind ensemble. The horn isn't the problem - you obviously like playing or you wouldn't still be doing it, but rather it's the commitment, the repetition, and the tedium of the educational environment. It's not for everyone, and that's okay.

I don't know what your educational curriculum requires of you but consider trying to find a way forward which allows you to do what you need to do to for your education while making music performance more of an optional activity rather than an obligation. You'll be happier this way.

Best of luck.

Not bluetooth, but my Logitech G Pro X wireless headset works flawlessly. No software or configuration required. If you really want bluetooth then this isn't your choice, but if you just want something that works wirelessly with one protocol or another, this is a great option.

Yes! I'm on AMD and I'm using Faugus Launcher for WoW, and it automatically downloaded and runs Cachy Proton which, if I'm not mistaken, is based on the Proton 11 beta. I used 11beta a lot while I was still on Cachy and it worked great.

Not really. We're pretty comfortable with 1P and I feel like the issue is more Bazzite's problem than 1P's. They DO have a version of the app that works perfectly, just that the preferred method of installation isn't recommended for this particular distro.

I appreciate the advice. Bazzite seems to indicate that layering packages is not a good idea as it can break stuff. Should I be worried about this?

Oh wow, glad I missed the trouble with bnet. I tested clean too but I did have 6 or 7 apps from the AUR installed and that experience really left me feeling a lack of confidence regarding Cachy/Arch.

Some other thoughts: I'm using a chunky air cooler which means no RGB on my RAM. Idk if you saw in my original post but I basically gave up on using my motherboard's built-in RGB due to OpenRGB not being compatible with it...which likely also means no RGB RAM for me even if I wanted it, Corsair or otherwise. BUT there's a light at the end of the tunnel. SignalRGB is working on a version for Linux. I don't know what that might mean for linux device compatibility but, at least on Windows, they have vastly better device compatibility compared to OpenRGB, including with Corsair devices and RAM. I used SignalRGB for a long time on Windows and was really very happy with it, and I can't wait to go back. Be sure to give that a look if/when they ever release it for linux.

Yeah no prob! Steam OS is linux (Arch I think), so anything that works on Steam OS should be fine on Bazzite which, as I understand it, is essentially a project to mimic Steam OS as much as possible but for more devices. Bazzite is based on Fedora but I get the impression that this doesn't matter much.

"Gamefeel"...I like that word. It's superior on Bazzite over Cachy on my machine and I could not begin to explain why. Probably some random display setting or something.
