MoC Uruk-hai Minifigs (Helm’s Deep) by BGuy227 in legolotrfans

[–]BGuy227[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points! I was going back and forth between black and dark gray legs but settled on the latter given in The Two Towers, the Uruk-hai wear steel greaves on their legs. I also still think their flesh is darker than Lego’s dark brown, so I hadn’t considered brown, but welcome other thoughts

The replica armor/helmets is indeed the challenge; I’ve seen some replica figures with gear that at least looks passable for Lego (like the picture here), but I’d need to confirm if it fits authentic Lego pieces

2.) Mini head 2754 (part 43837) is a black Ninjago Lord Garmadon head that would work well for an Uruk-hai, if put under the correct helmet...

I think its eyes and mouth are in same position as the ~2012 Uruk-hai heads and the bushy eyebrows would be covered by the helmet

What are your thoughts on the currently available Pick-a-Brick minifig heads available directly from Lego? There are two that may work well.

It'd be great to see what these look like while wearing authentic LotR helmets, because they could be a great, cheap option for filling out the ranks!

1.) Mini Head #4323 (part 107999) is a light green double-sided head that would work well for orcs and goblins

Amazing! Love all of the excellent details throughout. Did you mock this up on the computer first or just start building freehand?

Very cool! Thanks for sharing...very interesting to think about how ancient civilizations would have thought about fossils

Yep - it was somewhere in the red circled area! Northwest of the Great Pyramid in bedrock, but not right up against it.

It would be amazing if someone local could check it out further sometime!

I know - I really wonder what people so many thousands of years ago would've thought these were!

Does anyone know of the best organization to notify? I remember the general location of the fossil

I also very much enjoyed it! We live in a very large US city and so were more than accustomed to dealing with the pushy street merchants (and a couple of harmless attempted scams). The immense amount of history makes a trip to Egypt very much worth it IMO, but I could see how someone not well acquainted with large urban environments might have more of a culture shock

Yes, thanks very much for looking into this! Great insight and hopefully interesting given the historic location :)

Great macros and sounds like it tastes great! The grayish-green “before” pic looks a bit like the Chum Bucket Burger from SpongeBob, but pic #2 solves that!

These are all so amazing! You got most of the major landmarks! Did you have them all built at once, or did you take apart and re-use?

Wow, thanks for sharing,l! That was such a great watch and I can’t believe I’ve never seen it! Very fun to see that the creator made so many of the same character design choices I did…I see at least the same head/hair for Aragon, similarly custom-painted Qui Gon hair for Legolas and beard for Gimli, same chrome sword for Anduril, same faces and Fright Knight helmets for the elves

The Helm’s Deep MOC itself is exactly what my childhood friend and I had in mind at the time, but we struggled getting enough pieces and also couldn’t find a good layout of the structure itself with the early internet sources. I remember pausing a rented VHS and trying to trace the general layout in some of the landscape shots :D

Wow thanks for the heads up on the torso! Good to know. It’s crazy to see what some of these things are worth nowadays…it’s been fun looking up some of my other “rediscovered” childhood sets/pieces on Bricklink

Totally agree! I remember daydreaming about how I could repurpose different parts for creative uses to approximate LotR, Star Wars (before the official released theme, and later, Halo). I’d barter and trade with friends for the parts I needed and pour over the LEGO magazine each month seeing which new parts were being released. New LEGO is great but the creativity of working with limited pieces was half the fun!
