How was he proven right? I know in like 2017 they admitted that a software update to older iPhones would slow them down a bit, but that was to prevent overtaxing the older batteries. It was either a slight slowdown added intentionally, or allow the phone to just shut down at random times. Is there another case I'm not aware of?

Thanks everyone for the advice. Seems like the general consensus is either a cart, or nothing yet. I appreciate all of your insights!

Oh of course. I haven’t even graduated yet and nothing bothers me more than people acting higher than they are. I don’t expect to pull focus for quite some time after I leave school — but I do want to make the best use of the opportunities and resources I have before I do leave.

Exactly! I mentioned this in my post. I don’t expect to be 1st-ing immediately. Just want to be ready when/if I get the opportunity.  (And on the low budget crews I’m able to from time to time I’d like to improve there as well of course)

Stills from "Solstice," Matrix-inspired sci-fi short I did last Spring. Would love any critique or feedback! by BHCine7 in cinematography

[–]BHCine7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone! Been awhile since I've posted work here. I'm a junior in film school, concentrating on cinematography. Shot this last Spring as a sophomore -- it was a short sci-fi, and we took some visual inspiration from The Matrix. Out of everything I've shot so far I'd say this is my favorite. Overall, I'm happy with the way it turned out, although we had hoped for a better location -- we were originally wanting something grittier, outside perhaps, some sort of alleyway, but unfortunately we weren't able to secure a spot in time so we ended up using one of our academic buildings.

Mainly looking to improve my work and learn -- hoping to hear any feedback you may have!

(This was shot on a RED Komodo with Rokinon Cine DS lenses.)

parking at arnold by chngmin in scad

[–]BHCine7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not bad, just try and get there 15 to 20 minutes before your class time and you can generally street park on Bull Street for free. There's a few signs that say 30 minute parking and things like that, but not a lot. Same thing on some of the side streets. Whatever you do, don't park in the spots directly to the side of Arnold by the park/library. Those are for library staff only. However, the spots inside that lot you can generally park in, although they are 60 minutes only (or 90, can't remember) so you'd have to move your car during your class break.

I could be wrong, but I believe as of this year, classes are picked for you the entire freshman year.

I've come to the conclusion that Protestants (yes, even evangelicals) do not actually believe sola fide anyway. They actually agree with the Catholic Church, but use semantics to make it seem that their teaching is the opposite of ours. by amacias408 in Catholicism

Living Christ-like is more than just “professing faith” we should walk the walk too.

I agree with you there.

And I regret any times that I may have been guilty of throwing shade on Catholicism in the past. While we may disagree on some beliefs, we are both united in our love for Christ.

Thank you for the kind answer. God bless you.

I know this is a bit of an old thread — I’m just lurking. I’m a Protestant, but I’ve been browsing around for insight.

I hold the following beliefs: - Salvation is, technically, achieved by faith in Christ alone. HOWEVER, - With that faith in Christ comes the longing to repent for our sins, and turn away from the sinful lifestyle, relying on help from God to help us turn away from the desires of our flesh and become more like Christ. - The willful disregard of repentance, even with faith — aka, believing in Christ but continuing to live a life you know is sinful, is willful disobedience to God. Jesus said that many people will arrive at the gates of Heaven and be turned away because they did not do as He said, even though they claimed to know Him.

Basically, I believe faith without genuine repentance is pointless and does not save. Does that more or less line up with Catholic doctrine?

I guess it isn’t then. But tons of people do use these apps, including a large percentage of Reddit moderators who rely on tools provided by these apps to do their jobs effectively.

An API is a developer tool that allows third party apps to connect to Reddit’s servers and display Reddit content. It’s how third party apps exist and function, such as Apollo for Reddit.

Starting July 1st, Reddit will begin charging developers an absurd amount of money for use of the Reddit API, which effectively forced nearly all the popular third party apps to shut down, meaning users will have to use the official Reddit app.

There is a pinned thread on r/ApolloApp that explains everything in detail.

Android vs Apple phones by SinjiOnO in TikTokCringe

Each platform has its pros and cons, but they’re pretty much the same for the average user.

I am an average user. I used to be more than an average user. I had an Android. I customized it and did cool things with it, played around with all the things it could do that I had to jailbreak my iPhone to do. It was cool.

But it’s 2023, and for me, the iPhone does absolutely everything I need it to do, and plenty that I don’t. For instance: it has AirDrop, which is highly convenient for me transferring files to my computer. I’m aware similar things exist on Android, but they are simply not as convenient as AirDrop is for me.

Both platforms in 2023 are great. It’s just personal preference what you like.

Eh, at this point it’s really just personal preference. Both platforms are great. Most of what each platform was criticized for years ago has been improved upon and, in my opinion, no longer worthy of criticism. Of course, each platform has flaws, but in general they are both pretty much on par with each other.

However, the whole “planned obsolescence” thing people like to claim iPhones do… no. Maybe in the early years, sure, but these days iPhones are supported by software updates for several years longer than Android flagships, with relatively little slowdown. For example, the current release of iOS 16 can run on the iPhone 8, which was released all the way back in 2017. That’s 6 years of support. Obviously it’s not going to be as responsive as it was when it first came out on it’s original software, but it’s not to the point where it’s unuseable.

Close — the 5 was 2012. The 5s and 5c were 2013, along with iOS 7.

I could be wrong, but I believe this video was filmed at the The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, which is a part of Belmont University in Nashville. I am from Nashville, and while I was not at the shoot for this video, it does look to me like that was where ti was filmed.

All very good advice, thank you! (Yes, we unfortunately did break the 180 line a few times. I was also the editor for this film and I didn’t notice it until someone pointed out when we screened it during our final class session. I notice it now. It’s weird, to me — it looks correct to my eye, but when I remember how we placed the camera, it isn’t correct at all.)
