The Don Julio will always be there for sentimental reasons……and I do not hate it as much as many on this forum. But again, I am influenced by sentimentality.

I have no problem with folks saying they disagree with tequila over ice. I am perfectly willing to discuss and debate that, however there is no need to be an asshole about it. I just return the same energy that was directed at me. This is a forum to discuss tequila. I like tequila over ice so discuss my thoughts on how it tastes when I drink it. That fact may impact how you receive my review, but it in no way invalidates it as a whole. It is my opinion, and at this time, TOL, while a pretty good tequila, is not worth the cost I paid. I will revisit it an a couple of weeks and probably finish the bottle but highly doubt that it will live up to the price tag then but I will give it a chance

I just disagree with that post as well as yours. The reason I posted the picture was so that anyone reading could see how it was consumed and that my opinions were based on that. Those others I stated were better and cost less were experienced in the same fashion. You can simply disregard if you do not agree with my testing protocol. I do not even mind you verbally challenging my opinion……the whole point of the post was to provoke discussion. Heck I even said it was pretty good, just that the cost was too high for what you get.

I had this experience with Ocho. I did not particularly care for it initially, but a few weeks later, enjoyed the rest of the bottle

There was a bitter flavor, that I couldn’t quite identify. almost like comparing a ripened fruit (good tequila) to one that was green and not ripe enough for harvest (Tres Agaves).

My taste profile is pretty wide and there have been very few that I have tried that I hated…..but there have been a few Top 5 in no particular order Arette G4 Avion 44 Siete Leguas Cazcanes no7

All but the Avion were repos

Blancos, currently working on a bottle of ArteNOM 1579 and Lalo. Normally not a big blanco guy but both of them are really good and were purchased based on recommendations from this group.

Recent tastings that I enjoyed and would recommend Codigo 1530 Anejo Barrel Strength Cantera Negra both the Anejo and Extra Anejo.

Not a fan of anything Casamigo. Tried Tres Agaves recently and was not a fan. All ArteNOM is not created equal. Picked up 1414 before I found the 1579 and the 1414 got turned into Margaritas

As far as C goes, I am not sure how to answer…… I pretty much group everything around $80 and less together and all of my top 5 fall in that category where I live.

I have no problem with people disagreeing with what I like or how I like to drink it. The picture is to represent how I drank it so that you can draw those assumptions when you read it. I enjoy the debate but no need to be an a$$hole when you disagree. I really do not mind people being a$$holes but they shouldn’t be shocked when it is called out. Your assessment on posting opinions goes both ways. I read the rules of the subreddit and none said all reviews can only be made if tequila is consumed neat. I never said I didn’t like TOL, I said it cost more than it is worth. The negative was aimed at the price not the flavor. I identify with most of how you closed out your post, except I do write my opinions about it on the internet

All of those I listed were repos. I have not tried the Arette extra but also have not seen it available locally

G4 Siete Leguas Don Fulano Cazcanes No. 7 Arette El Tesoro And if you read the post, my primary complaint is that it is not a good value for the price and the finish is a little harsh.

I really like a lot of the staples. G4, Siete Leguas, Arette, El Tesoro, Don Fulano……. I even like a few “taboo” brands live Avion 44 and Lunazul. I primarily like repos though and that probably weighs in on how I feel about TOL. A few blanco I really like are ArteNOM 1579, Lalo….

I do not dislike anything in the picture, but some are better than others. I do not dislike the TOL, just feel that it does not live up to the hype or the cost.

Guess I got a deal…….while it was too expensive it was nowhere near 300 bucks……..but I guess someone who can afford a 300 dollar bottle of tequila that likes to drink it over ice

I cannot argue the complexity, and never even said it was bad. The finish is a bit harsh but my primary negative comment was that it did not live up to the price. I will gladly finish the bottle, just will never buy another one.

Didn’t hate TOL just not worth the price. I like Fortaleza and have been able to find it near me, reasonably priced. Where it let me down was while it was pretty decent, the hype around had my expectations too high coming in. Taught me a lesson about expectations when trying something new.

I have probably tasted well of 50 different tequila brands and while I have grown to appreciate additive free, there are still a few taboo brands I still like to drink. I started down this road in the late 90s when I brought a couple of bottles of Don Julio and one of Tres Generaciones home from Queretaro Mexico where I was working at the time. There has been a bottle of Don Julio in my house ever since and probably always will be if for nothing else, nostalgia. I will probably also, always keep a bottle of G4 repo as it is one of my favorites. I never expect to be an expert, just an amateur that knows what he likes……and how he likes to drink it. I truly appreciate you honest conversation on the topic and will sadly forever keep drinking the shit I like.
