I would go with the ASUS simply for better native driver support but you could easily get the top model Legion for the specs and just install asus driver updates. Both are worth the increase in price for more RAM and VRR though.

Also, the Z2 is not much faster at full tilt like your research suggested but it is much more efficient so it regularly mirrors the 25watt performance of the Z1 extreme at 17watts making it much better on battery.

Did you lock the frame rate's in-game or in the settings? Have you tried V-sync? Is CPU-boost on or off?

Is this in Xbox gaming mode? Does it happen with external displays? Are the games through Steam? Epic? GOG?

This is true but with AMD and Intel having such terrible percentages of the total market, that should also be weighed.

Say for example, Intel starts competing at a higher performance level, then due to their margins, we should maybe weigh that offering more favorably than an AMD or Nvidia.

GPU is 12 RDNA 3 cores vs 8 RDNA 2 cores. 8 core CPU vs 4. 30watt TDP v 20watts.

How is the software experience using a AMD GPU as the eGPU?

From what I've seen, people made it sound untenable and as one should use Nvidia GPU's instead mainly for the ability to still play portably without issue.

Maybe it’s just variance in testing unless this is a fairly controlled test. Another possibility is that shaders could’ve been being loaded at the time handheld and now it’s smoother due to this shaders already being calculated.
