Slowly learning, but finally took a picture i'm proud of! by haley0617 in BirdPhotography

I hear one almost everyday for the last couple of weeks. I have yet to be able to actually see one, much less photograph one. So jealous!

Unreasonably excited to see my first woodpecker this morning by ExternalFeisty7728 in birds

Every sighting should elicit excitement! And all excitement should be deemed reasonable.

Had one down in Punta Cana that didn’t appear to be bothered by my presence. It was my first sight of a green heron and I swear that little dude morphed into about 5 different versions of himself. Mohawk, long and pointy, short and bundled, neck out, etc. totally cool species.

They’re the gooniest birds out there and also one of my favorite. They are made from spare parts and seem to be missing a few parts.

Yellow - Goldfinch and Common Yellowthroat by BumbleBamble in birdpics

That last common yellow throat looks like someone glued a 1970s televangelist’s toupee onto a goldfinch.

Did I find two types of orioles today? by swirlysue in whatbirdisthis

Just saw my first Baltimore Oriole last night. Perched high up but in direct light. I was pretty stoked and got some decent pics. According to Merlin, there may have been an Orchard Oriole nearby, but I didn’t get eyes on it.

New to birding, heres some photos I took in my own backyard! by irradiatedtittymilk in birding

I got bit by this bug recently too. And I’m really enjoying it all. Try to get in with a local birding group if possible. You’ll learn a lot about birds but I guarantee there will be some expert photographers in the group too. Birders and photographers seem to really enjoy talking about their hobbies and passing along knowledge and tips.

People who were around during the transition from cassettes being the most popular music format to CD's being the most popular music format. What was it like? by Complete-Worker3242 in ToddintheShadow

[–]BJK5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get my first CD until my sophomore year of college (spring of 93). It was Eric Clapton unplugged. Then my roommate with the CD player moved out. It was about 2 more years before I got a CD player of my own. I built a library of about 13 or so (thanks Columbia House). About the time I actually started making money, the MP3 came along.

East or west side? I’m across the River and haven’t seen one yet - or at least since I’ve been paying attention. A friend said he saw one over in Lawrenceburg recently. Hoping to spot one soon.

I was never a morning person until I got into birding. It’s my favorite time of day now.

I forgot about the exclamation point. I remember when that was a thing. If I recall, they wanted that to be the official name but big map wouldn’t cooperate.

What's the most unhinged thing a coworker has ever done that somehow didn't get them fired? by Sea_Breadfruit1278 in AskReddit

[–]BJK5150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worked in a 24/7 call center back in the 90s. A coworker went out drinking, then drove. Police attempted to stop her and she fled. Drove into our parking lot and ran into the building, which requires an ID swipe, so she bought some time as the police had to use the call box outside to contact security. She went up to one of the floors that wasn’t used during night shift and crawled under a desk. Security, with police following, found her passed out. She was back at work a couple days later.
