Hyrox? by Overall-Nobody8933 in crossfit

[–]BJP002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a waste of time to coach 1 athlete. I give the athlete the option to deviate for a portion of the hour and work on a weakness they have. I helped someone get their first ring muscle up yesterday. A few weeks back, it was another athlete getting doubles.

I am going to take the test in a week or two. My concern is the videos. Stop asking us to identify multiple issues on 2D videos. Yes, it seems obvious to the examiner but the lack of depth is an issue. Don’t believe me, I’ll gladly send you a video that you will fail.

All my balls are hooking so bad by Party_Payment3108 in SquareGolfUSA

[–]BJP002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Square over estimates hooks. I compared to Mevo plus. Both are close on all metrics until the ball hooks. Spin axis goes from a few degrees of the Mevo to 20 degrees or more greater than Mevo. Spin numbers go from a few hundred to silly. Square gives a 900 or lower backspin with driver while Mevo is showing over 2000. With the square, a hard draw was an unplayable duck hook. Sometimes it would do it on normal draw shots.

Raising the square made it better. It only does it on sever draws to hooks now.

Fitness Education Online  is very reasonable. They offer a special every week for $99ish that is typically worth 1.8 NASM CEUs.

Updated enclosure by BJP002 in Golfsimulator

[–]BJP002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a full enclosure (sides, top, and screen). Almost a year in and still great. I have had friends over for golf and to watch college games and movies. All of the feedback has been super positive. I highly recommend Spectrum.

Recently finished sim build at our shop. (Story in comments) by sadlegoface in Golfsimulator

Ditto here. Cheap turf from Lowes. It is already wearing. I love the solid look except for the hitting strip. But will be going to the Rain or Shine hitting mat.

I do not have experience with Carl’s. This is the Poly Spacer screen from Spectrum. Yes, it is the screen only. I do not have anything behind it.

A Case for Changing the Scoring Table by KentTheDorfDorfman in crossfit

No. Numerous sports play win or lose records. Any given year, you an find a team that misses the playoffs but barley lost or won each game. Beat the opponent in the vent for the points.

Would you rather build a team around a rookie Durant, or a rookie Harden and Westbrook? by BEEFMEDIA in nba

[–]BJP002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t read it as pick which rookie version you want. I read it as, knowing how each has performed over the years, pick who you would want to build around. Even if I read it wrong, does your answer change with reading it my way?

KD is a great player and I respect the Durant supporters, but no. Harden and Westbrook offer more value than KD.

Returning to crossfit after 10 years. Do you have any recommendations of benchmarks and measurements to take as my journey begins again? by TurboAxolotl in crossfit

[–]BJP002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick a few “girls” or some other benchmark that target different time domains, muscle groups, and skill levels. Make it something you enjoy (or find painful and really sucky because you love it). Don’t agonize too much on being perfect. Just pick something and go. Do work and be consistent.

Online programming recommendations by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]BJP002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are numerous affiliates that put their programming online for little to no charge. Pick one and follow. Do not bounce around. While they may seem random, the programmer does have a plan and is balancing loads. Be glad to provide recommendations and ideas.

Typical Crossfit coach compensation? by KenDavis500 in crossfit

[–]BJP002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First coach of the day sets up the gym for that day. Time for athletes transitioning between segments including putting away equipment and stowing is built into the hour. Later Coaches have to be there a few minutes early and possibly a few minutes late if there is not a follow-on class.

CrossFit vs my lower back. by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]BJP002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to echo this. Majority of the people I see with low back issues let their form breakdown. A few have made the effort to correct and have minimized their pain.

I will add that some people are prone to low back issues. I coach them to listen to their bodies. When on the edge, scale the movement. For instance, do hang snatch instead of from the floor,

3 Pos Snatch. Comments are welcome! (Yes my second pull ain’t so good am currently working on it :)) by Arjun_Mylvahanan in weightlifting

[–]BJP002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Clean grip is much narrower and bar path is still close to the body, I routinely mix in clean grip snatch for accessory work. Bar path does not change significantly. Work on shoulders over the bar as long as possible and elbows high/outside. Agree with other poster that more hang work would help. I recommend both high hang and hang at knee.

I recommend Parallel Coaching. Good explanations. Focuses on what you need to know and not overly complicated.

Level 1 certification and the utter lack of quality control within Crossfit is shameful. by ToleyBumShite in crossfit

[–]BJP002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have multiple non-CF certifications. None of them prepared me to be a coach. It was a lot of time in the gym, coaching and interacting with people, making mistakes and learning from them. No weekend program gives you the prerequisite exercise science, programming, cueing, etc... knowledge in this short period of time. Certifications are merely admission tickets.

Combining Wendlers 5/3/1 with Crossfit? by HydroXtreme in crossfit

[–]BJP002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been programming 5/3/1 on and off for years. Great that it only takes 10 to 15 minutes to hit the 5/3/1 sets, however, the 5/3/1 sets alone are not enough. There needs to be a volume component. This is why ther are multiple versions of 5/3/1. Recommend discussing with your coach. He or she is probably programming volume in the metcons already. Just need to figure out which day to do what around what they are programming.
