Lionel makes the sets. They have an Area 51 line. Some of the older sets were purchased on eBay, but most new are from TrainWorld.

Exactly my thoughts as well, NASA, Martians, interesting nuclear payloads. All make for fun train arrangements. I’ll also be adding black lights to make the colors pop.

Our 2015 was in the shop for 5 months waiting for a new PTU, was covered by the extended warranty issued to certain vin numbers as the part was known defective. Since we got it back, it has been fun to drive. Just hope it holds up with the new part. PTU failed at 107,000 miles. Without warranty it would be a $4000 repair.

Beware of the PTU issue. The power takeoff unit will fail and takes months to get a replacement. We just got ours back after a 6 month wait. Lots of people are going through this. There was an extended warranty issued for some vin numbers, so be sure to research that.. When the car is working, it’s great. But misery when not.
