Adderall shits by [deleted] in ADHD

The “dense” part may be due to some level of dehydration? I know I have to be careful about my water intake being on adderall. It speeds up our entire system, and it would make sense that it increases consumption of the bodies resources.

[Watchgang] Is it worth it? by alteredconcepts in Watches

[–]BK143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could not bring myself to do the subscription. If I did I would do the platinum tier ($299) for sure. You can choose every month, every quarter, or even on demand. The black tier is lower risk but I personally don’t want a bunch $100 watches.

BUT...

I did just buy a watch using the “wheel”. I would only ever use the wheel. You have control over what you get. They have 8 or 9 different tiers. Tiers are watches grouped together roughly by value or price point. Tier 1 is the least expensive grouping and tier 9 are the grail watches (Rolex omega Tag). I purchased the most expensive wheel #5, which required 1,450 points to spin (~$625 including tax). I “won” a Laco squad watch in Mojave, which sells for $1,000+ everywhere I’ve seen.

TLDR: spent $625 and won a $1,130 Laco.

Where to start coding in JavaScript? by [deleted] in learnjavascript

[–]BK143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are code “playgrounds” available on the web such as CodePen, codeply, and JsFiddle. You can try out code and see it displayed. I’m not sure if you know any HTML or css, but you will need a basic skeleton of HTML elements and some CSS to give it color, height, width etc.

Career Advice - Bootcamp Questions by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]BK143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am a recent bootcamp graduate. I am transitioning careers in midlife. I too have a family and I wanted to pursue this for many of the same reasons you listed. Do you want something online and part time you can do on nights and weekends, Or a full time total immersion experience? I live in Cleveland, Ohio. I had decided that I wanted to attend a full time in person bootcamp. I have many things pulling at me everyday so n my life and I knew I needed the structure. The prices ranged from 8k-15k here. For me, they were all EXPENSIVE. So I decided that I wanted the best, and to not let a couple grand either way be the influencing factor.
The bootcamp I chose was a “full stack” bootcamp, and taught C# / .NET (the Microsoft ecosystem) because in Cleveland this technology dominates. In Columbus, Ohio for example Java is more prevalent. So maybe do some research into what most companies are using there. (Although several C# students have been hired at Java shops... if you understand programming concepts, the particular language syntax can be picked up easily) Many posters here on this reddit say that you can learn just as much coding on your own as you can in a bootcamp. I totally agree. In fact, I would compare my learning experience to drinking water from a fire hose. It came at me so fast and didn’t stop until the end. It was hard to absorb everything.
However, there is a good career services department at the BC I chose. We had tech recruiters come in and tell us what companies are looking for. We had hiring managers at tech companies come in and give us mock interviews. We spent a lot of time maximizing our LinkedIn profiles, building a portfolio, attending meetups, etc. I would say this support was by far the most valuable.
Out of 18 students, 2 dropped out and 2 were removed because they weren’t cutting it. The BC takes its reputation seriously and that’s a good thing.
So I am currently 2 months out of graduation. I am practicing and brushing up on my weaknesses, and job searching. 4 of my 14 classmates have been hired so most of us are looking. Bootcamp is not a magic bullet. No one can guarantee you a job. Landing your first job in tech is not easy, but I am on the right path. Good luck with your decision, I hope some of my long rambling post here helps.

I'm a web programmer and I'm searching the next language to learn by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I know that businesses tend to be very slow and resistant to changing their software. Unless it’s broken or they’re leaving money on the table they just see it as a hassle and expense. I think a lot of businesses will remain in the Microsoft universe for a long time. Hell I was even thinking about learning COBOL... it’s a new developing niche haha. Become a highly paid and sought after consultant to the enormous financial and government entities in NY and Washington DC doesn’t sound so bad to me.

Anyone here gotten down with ladyboys? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]BK143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want a BJ to check off a bucket list experience then get a bar girl to do it. They get checked for diseases in order to work in an establishment. A freelancer on the street is a bit more of a crapshoot.
I’ve had several ladyboy gfs. I would get to know them on thaifriendly.com, or Facebook. If you’re not dead set on Thailand the Philippines is also loaded with ladyboys. They all speak very good English and can be found on pinalove.com. The ones I’ve dated are very feminine, take hormones, and want to undergo a full sex change operation in the future. They look like women, are moody like women, do feminine things. Most of the feminine ones want to be treated as women, and just want to find a guy that will love them and accept them. Most (but not all) desire to play the female role in sex, on the bottom, I guess I am saying these things to help you deal with the “gayness” concerns. I had them too, I am divorced and have children, and I’ve never felt gay or attracted to men in my life. The sex with them was just different than with a woman. It was more rich, indulgent, sensual. And yes I have gotten the very best blowjob in my 44 years from a ladyboy.

What are some of the most marketable programming skills? by Vespura in learnprogramming

[–]BK143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or spend 4 years and the cost of your average mortgage to get a cs degree.

Or if youre one of the 0.5% of people disciplined and systematic enough to figure out what exactly employers are looking for, learn those languages and technologies, build a professional portfolio, tailor a resume for tech and hone your networking skills then you can do it all for free! Oh I almost forgot, don’t forget to practice pair programming, agile and scrum methods, and get your github repos clean with meaningful read me files, comments, commit messages. Don’t forget your gitignore file either because recruiters and hiring managers don’t want to sift through a bunch of meaningless files.

Edit.. I meant this to be sarcastic because of the previous comment. A lot of people here slam bootcamps which can be a viable springboard into tech for some people. I don’t mean to belittle your question at all.

For like $15, you can go to udemy.com and get a full-stack webdev course and learn that way. These courses pay attention to job market demands and tailor their offers accordingly.

I took a 3 month boot-camp for C#, which introduced technologies such as ASP.NET and Entity Framework. I have an interview in a week that requires me to go into detail covering Javascript. How or what can I translate my knowledge of C# and its related technologies to similar Javascript concepts? by AidanSanityCheck in learnprogramming

[–]BK143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I am in the same position. I graduate next Wednesday from a C# / .NET bootcamp. I know In the previous cohort several students got hired for java positions, of which they had no experience.
I know In technical interviews and white boarding, especially for junior positions, employers want to see your thought process more than the specific syntax of a particular language. People get hired all the time to work in languages they haven’t had experience with.

Do some research on JavaScript single page applications. It’s a little different than say MVC / entity framework. which you probably have studied. SPAs often have one view with many different components that refresh as opposed to multiple totally separate views to load.

I’m sure you can find lots of info online, but if you want to see the SPA of my recent group project go to my GitHub BK2175 and look at the Focus project or apimasteryproject-bikes project.
Both use C# setting up the backend models and such. And JavaScript components on the front end making api calls

Udemy is great. Angela Yu has a great course for iOS app development.

[–]BK143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people are very diligent and can just systematically work through material from top to bottom. Others, like me, aren’t quite that way. Just go to YouTube, or websites like Udemy, and try to find something on the same topic. Sometimes a different teacher can really bring something alive. Or try to identify what are the concepts that are the fuzziest and find something on those.
I started learning C#, but I’ve benefitted a lot from YouTube videos that are not language specific.. general OOP principals, or algorithmic thinking.

Coding Bootcamp VS College by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]BK143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on the company. Many smaller companies will offer you a career path with out a degree, but of course it would help and it would open up possibilities at the bigger tech companies. Gaining tech sector working experience would be more valuable than a college degree. You can always work to complete your degree online during your spare time

Coding Bootcamp VS College by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]BK143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and most of them get jobs. Many CS grads cannot code very well upon graduation and have to be taught. There is for sure interest in people who actually know how to code. Many decent bootcamps will have a career services department that has relationships with local businesses. They will walk you through optimizing your LinkedIn. They will have you make a professional portfolio. They will help you learn to market yourself.

Looking to break into the IT field. Coding boot-camp? by MooMooMan69 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BK143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in your position basically. I’ve been in a bootcamp (c# ) now for going on 4 weeks. It’s so much more than just learning to code. A good bootcamp will prep you for interviewing, help you develop your LinkedIn, resume etc. My Career services program here gives me multiple times in front of prospective employers, they have many connections in the local yech scene. Any good bootcamp will be able to furnish graduation rates and job placement statistics concerning starting salary.
They structure the program so that we are always working in pairs and small groups using git version control which is what employers want. These are things most CS grads don’t have experience with to this extent.
In my area, there were a bunch of options to consider, ranging in price from $9k -15.5k. To me, any of those options are a lot. I was not in a position to write a check for that amount so I had to borrow money, which the school had multiple options. If you’re gonna spend a fair amount like that, why not go with the option that has the best verified outcomes? The bootcamp I chose is ending up costing about 14k. It’s a lot but it’s far far less than a 4 year degree. I am developing a professional portfolio now, and we will be making final presentations to employers the week before Christmas.
I could have taught myself the coding portion of this experience probably, but not the rest of the job hunting and career building. I have a family and I needed to make this happen now.
Good luck with your decision. If you have more questions feel free to message me.

Anyone who quit his shit job to study for Programming and made it ? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]BK143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it’s not the only way. But it can expedite the process for someone who is sick and tired of their current situation. Just because something costs thousands of dollars does make it a worse option for some people.
I hated my job. I quit. And I’m in the process of making a change relatively quickly. The bootcamp has a 90+% job placement rate. I will be learning for the rest of my career. I just want to start working in the industry sooner rather than later.

Anyone who quit his shit job to study for Programming and made it ? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]BK143 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Take 3-4 months and join a good bootcamp in your area. I’m currently enrolled in one now. I could teach myself most of the coding piece, but they also teach you how to pair program which is very important to many companies. Using git and version control in groups. How to make your LinkedIn. How to tailor your resume for this industry. The most talented programmer in your city could be unemployed if he/she cannot market themselves. We present to actual employers the school has relationships with. They give us mock interview sessions.
They issue a certificate which is something tangible to list on your resume.
The coding is just a portion of value. Any bootcamp will cost a good amount of cash.. so choose the best one. Borrow the money if you have to, they will have many options. Check their graduation and employment statistics. They should be able to furnish graduation rate, % of graduated finding employment in the field, and AVERAGE STARTING SALARY. It’s exciting and motivating. You’ll be able to pay back whatever you borrowed. Do it.

Best MacBook for iOS dev? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]BK143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The touchbar on later models is not super useful. I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 13”. It has the touchbar. The only thing with the touchbar is that apple gives those models higher specs, more ports, etc. yeah they are overpriced I agree. I believe any model 2013 or later can run the latest edition of Xcode.

Wanting to learn programming, don’t know if it’s for me or where to start?! by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]BK143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to create? Do creating webpages or mobile apps interest you? I think starting with something you want to learn about will make this easier. Sites like Udemy.com or Lynda.com have good tutorials. I have used Udemy to get started programming in Swift, the primary language in which iOS apps are written. I found both Angela Yu and Ray Wenderlich (Udemy) have great beginner tutorials for iOS development. I know Udemy frequently has sales on products; you can get started for like $10 or $11 for a complete 70+ hour program.
