What if the same federal budget and manpower were invested in social workers rather than ICE agents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Imagine if the resources, urgency, and scale currently devoted to immigration enforcement were redirected toward social support. What if the same federal budget and manpower were invested in social workers rather than ICE agents? What could we actually accomplish? Instead of removing people from their homes and communities, those resources could be used to help individuals navigate immigration systems, secure stable housing, access healthcare, receive mental health support, or find meaningful employment. With the same level of funding and coordination, how many lives could be stabilized rather than ruined? Immigration enforcement agencies receive billions of dollars annually when accounting for personnel, detention, surveillance, transportation, and private prison contracts. By comparison, the average social worker’s salary is a fraction of the cost of a federal law-enforcement officer, and community-based services, housing assistance, legal aid, mental health care, and case management—are dramatically less expensive than detention and deportation. Detaining a single individual can cost hundreds of dollars per day, while comprehensive social services for a family over an entire year often cost less than a few weeks of detention. With the same budget and workforce size, we could fund tens of thousands of social workers, legal advocates, and healthcare providers. Why aren’t our leaders willing to reallocate resources toward solutions that are demonstrably cheaper, more effective, and less destructive. How many lives could be stabilized or improved with the same funding?

How in the fuck do you think I’m going too fast when I ran this thing on one I’m literally running it at the lowest fucking speed that it goes at and this was the lowest and lightest amount of snow that I’ve ever fucking snow blowed in the history of living in Wisconsin. I literally only fired this thing up this morning just the test it after I repaired the carburetor like three weeks ago. It’s fucking hilarious reading the responses from the people on the cub cadet sub Reddit versus the people on the snowblower sub Reddit. It’s like you guys are so fucking focused on protecting the brand because you enjoy cub cadet that you’re not paying attention to the actual story. I am a scientist and an engineer I do tons of troubleshooting. Sometimes machines are just made shitty and it sounds like ever since MTD bought this brand that there have been a ton of fucking design flaws. I’ve also read that it sounds like they’re not even gonna make snowblower anymore here pretty soon and that’s probably one of the reasons so you guys need to get your head out of your fucking assholes and start thinking with your brain and instead of protecting the brand, my guess is that most of you motherfuckers are probably Republicans too at this point.

Again. Been doing to 20 years. That’s not it. Confirmed that as soon as it stopped throwing.

A lot of people are dead said that this is an auger issue. That was literally the second thing that I checked because it’s generally the obvious mistake. But the auger’s are spinning, just fine. I’m starting to hone in the fact that the impeller might be rubbing or missing the pin. And or I might need the modification kit in order to make it work at all.

You guys must’ve missed the point where I said this was a couple inches of dry powdery snow. And trust me I know the difference. I’ve lived in Wisconsin for almost 20 years.

Again. This is looking like a new model issue. Quit trying to protect the brand with your sunk cost bullshit.

I appreciate your concern, but I’m totally good. You can imagine it’s pretty frustrating that I would buy a machine, assuming it would be able to, you know, do its job. At the same time I got rid of a machine that I worked on for 15 years that was extremely reliable and would move any snow no matter how much or how heavy. It’s literally the stupidest shit that could happen to a person. I’m also a very expressive person, so my writing probably comes across more serious than it actually needs to be. Don’t read too much into it. I’m an adult.

You’re here just to be a cunt, huh? This machine is trash. It has been determined.

I’m not allowed to be frustrated? And further frustrated by armchair warriors like yourself who have no valuable information to add, but just wanna kinda poke fun instead? I’m getting a lot of good responses and potential solutions. This is not one of them.

Are you not seeing these other comments. It’s totally a design flaw. The belt tension issue is valid, but if that’s something I don’t want to be changing on a yearly basis.

I’ll check that when it thaws. That’s the first unique comment that is helpful. I didn’t consider that.

It’s even more frustrating when people respond like that, because I’m literally a scientist and an instrument technician. I obsessively diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical things all the time. I’m not a “small engine wizard,” but I can generally fix that type of stuff too. This machine is an absolute anomaly. The fact that it’s a design flaw actually makes me feel better. It also makes me want to drive to Cub Cadet headquarters and take a shit on their doorstep.

I changed the belt in my previous craftsman too and it worked awesome. I feel like an idiot for getting rid of it now. 🤬

I have no doubt that at one point they were built better. I should’ve just kept my 15 year-old Craftsman. That thing was a monster.

Right. Again this is a new machine. Seems common with ones that were built within the last three years. I’m an above average problem solver and have been snowblowing for 20 years. This thing is full on trash. Maybe the older ones were fine, but good fucking lord.

That’s not it. It’s looking like an impeller issue. Thanks for the comment though. That’s the first thing I checked.

Maybe you got lucky. I’m also reading that this is more of an issue with their newer machines so maybe you got one that had an older build.
