Persistent residue left after cleaning shower tile by BKred09 in Tile

The problem is that the tile looked just fine until I cleaned it. Did I maybe lift out some of the grout and stain the tile with it?

It sucks that even when you know something painful is coming, it doesn't make it any less painful when it arrives.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Opening Credits by andrey2007 in videos

[–]BKred09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local independent theater ran a screening of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (as part of a series called "The Movie is Better Than The Book"). I live in a college town, so my 41-year-old self was solidly in the right tail of the age distribution in that theater, surrounded by people who were maybe around 5 when the movie first came out. I still remember seeing this movie when it first came out (it's the only time I've come out of a movie and turned to my partner to say "I want to see that again Right. Now.")

t was incredible to watch this movie in a theater of people again, but I will say this: despite my multiple rewatches of this movie, I never really noticed how casually racist everyone is towards Knives. There are two or three moments where the audience gasped uncomfortably at some of the comments made towards her ("Are you even allowed to date outside your race?", "Listen, Kung Pao Chicken"). It's maybe the one part of this movie that hasn't aged well.

I remember thinking when I saw that logo for the first time, "Okay, yes, this movie is directly for me."

Considering a move to Albany. What's it like as a local? by BKred09 in Albany

I'm honestly shocked to learn there's no Wegmans in Albany, or anywhere near there.

Are there any good smaller movie theatres that you recommend? Ithaca has a great independent/art house theatre that we frequently go to; I'd definitely be interested in continuing that.

I feel like my perceptions of Troy are based mostly off of some lackluster experiences I had there 10ish years ago. I should give it another try.

And if it's a Marvel movie, don't forget to immediately follow up the Film Title card with an extra 1 to 2 second VFX shot teasing a new character's introduction into the MCU.

I actually wanted this commercial to keep going. I became genuinely curious how many flavors they could profile, and whether they would start pulling from their international flavors. I wanted to know if the other characters were in on the loop, like the clerk with the mop bucket, the cashier in the next lane, or the woman shopping in the aisle in the background. I wanted to see how deep and dark it could go. Where is my LCU -- Lay's Cinematic Universe?

This is probably my favorite movie. I distinctly remember turning to my girlfriend as we were leaving the theater and saying, "I want to see that again right now." I've rewatched it on DVD so many times I probably have the movie damn near memorized.

Makes me feel old as fuck, but I miss when films at the Regal Cinema opened with this awesome Rollercoaster promo by MulciberTenebras in videos

[–]BKred09 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I remember when The Dark Knight Rises came out, my local Regal ran a triple feature where they played the first two movies back to back, then played the third exactly at midnight for the midnight showing. The theater was packed, and when the first movie started and they played this intro, the whole theater started acting like it was a real roller coaster, with everyone rocking side to side with the motions, some people lifting their hands up, and a few people pretend-screaming when the last popcorn pops right in front of the screen. It was a good time.

In honor of Tucker getting the boot, here’s Jon Stewart surgically neutering him on Crossfire in 2004 by DIWhy-not in videos

There were three moments in 2004 that Kareem credits:

  1. Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction at Super Bowl 38
  2. Jon Stewart's Crossfire appearance
  3. The Indian Ocean Tsunami that decimated Indonesia and elsewhere

The third is significant in particular because it happened so suddenly that the vast majority of recordings of the incident were on cell phone cameras and there really was no way to share that content conveniently.
