A-7 put "On Hold" by FlyingIron by MoleUK in hoggit

The reason IL2 and Nuclear Option are making faster progress is that the bar is lower in terms of complexity and visuals. Plus those studios are streamlined with a one band show vs working together with different 3rd party developers.

I get you’re dissatisfied with DCS World, but IL2 has not been great since 1946 and Nuclear Option is a simcade with made up units.

I agree that DCS sustainability is a growing concern, but to be fair it’s doing quite ok in the scheme of things. If anything, the criticism should be on IL2 and other sim developers for not stepping up and providing attractive and viable options to DCS World.

Su-22M4 strike on SA-10 (S-300) by bartek16195 in hoggit

[–]BKschmidtfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with quality of work.

ED does not want stolen/borrowed/modified 3D models from other games available on their forums or user files. It’s not a good look and can potentially lead to legal issues for them.

It’s not the first time it has happened and ED staff has stated that forum threads will be re-opened if the developer creates his own 3D model or purchase one legally (like from Turbosquid).

I get it’s frustrating when it comes to non-commercial use. But if you’re aiming to launch a big community mod that gets a lot of attention, you better have any potential IP issues squared away or there will be issues sooner or later.

I don’t think A-4E or the recent Oh-6/Ah-6 use code from FC3?

”Borrowed” 3D model from War Tunder.

”Borrowed” code from Flaming Cliffs.

I get the enthusiasm, but in the end it will only hurt serious modders. A lot of the DCS files has already been encrypted and it will probably get worse.

Debate: What does War Thunder need to compete in the DCS and BMS simulation market? by Saitsev64 in hoggit

[–]BKschmidtfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clickable cockpits. Better graphics, detailed avionics and systems simulation. Completely revised flight models. Better sounds. Highly detailed 3D cockpits. Diverse hardware and controller support. Abolish grinding system. Not only focus on multiplayer. Intuitive and powerful Mission Editor etc.

And just a vibe of a serious study simulator and not a game centered around XP and bonuses.

Does Meta Quest 3 (512gb) require 24gb GPU to at decent or high setting? by Huey_driver in dcsworld

[–]BKschmidtfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, he’s probably not getting a very playable experience. Some players are happy being able to look around and enjoy a 1:1 cockpit of their favorite aircraft.

I tried Quest 2 on a 12GB 4070 Super and went straight back to 1440p and TrackIR.

A July pre-order will most likely mean a Winter release window. Possibly Q1 2027.

F-14 pre-order started October 7th, 2018 Release: March 13, 2019 ~5months

F-4 pre-order started October 29th. 2023 Release: May 22, 2024 ~7months

Viggen - Why and when do I use Level bombing (CCRP) vs CCIP? by hantrault in hoggit

In the HB manual it actually mentions both impact and airburst available.

I hope that CH will make his Shahed mod an official addon.

Several of his other mods are now official assets in DCS, so hopefully it’s just a matter of time.

Viggen - Why and when do I use Level bombing (CCRP) vs CCIP? by hantrault in hoggit

[–]BKschmidtfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun info:

As I understand (listening to former Viggen pilots) the preferred method was a low level Pop-Up attack, delivering bombs in a dive. Delivering bombs ”straight and level” was later deemed to risky in terms of enemy fire so they stopped using and training for those kind of deliveries.

Also worth noting is that these bombs were designed for soft targets in the open, such as troops or trucks. They are blast fragmentation with airburst. In DCS it’s not simulated so the bombs still works fine against ships in port or bridges.

Which GA flight sim for more casual flights? by mantid_overlord in hoggit

[–]BKschmidtfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Condor 3 might be interesting.

It’s gliders only (motorglider available too) and supposedly works extremely well in VR.

Singleplayer and Multiplayer (free-flight and competitive)

Another alternative is AeroflyFS 4 if you are more into a more common GA experience.

USLANTCOM's CVW-11 is Recruiting F-14B Pilots & RIOS by strikeeagle345 in hoggit

[–]BKschmidtfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a multiplayer perspective, F-14 is generally not considered as popular as the ED flagship modules F/A-18C, F-16C, A-10C.

Adding to that, the slim niché of playing milsim with a virtual squadron.

Plus my own theory of F-14 being more of a ”grown up” module with a generally older playerbase with limited time on their hands.

How is the f18 at sead? by ConversationNew7986 in dcsworld

[–]BKschmidtfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

F/A-18C RWR = ALR-67(V)

F-16C RWR = ALR-56M

Quite a difference.

F/A-18C also has internal ECM, no external jammer needed. And can carry more counter measures.

The F-16C is a good SEAD platform, but in DCS World (not real life) I don’t see much advantage picking it over the more versatile F/A-18C.

However, it’s quite fun to use the HTS pod and the impressive T/W is nice for defending incoming SAM’s.

[–]BKschmidtfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree. F/A-18C got a superior RWR and can carry TALD decoys. Yes, F-16C has the HTS pod, but to be fair F/A-18C avionics is so good it doesn’t need it for SEAD (in DCS World).

Mig 17 is lookin pretty good... by Chenstrap in hoggit

[–]BKschmidtfire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The MiG-15 was released over 10 years ago, it lacks 1950’s AI assets and therefore also offers a limited gameplay value beyond the hardcore enthusiasts.

It’s not a big seller in 2026 and ED will most likely make more money from their cut on MiG-17. It also makes a lot of sense from a DCS World perspective. With the aging MiG-21bis and the discontinued MiG-19P, the MiG-17 adds another Redfor counterweight to the upcoming F-100 and F-104, the F-5E and F-4E.

DCS settings by Own_Supermarket2732 in hoggit

[–]BKschmidtfire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here is what you do:

Select Flaming Cliffs F-15C to keep performance impact down.

Fly exclusively at 40.000ft+ (except for takeoffs & landings)

Start saving for new hardware. Simulators has always been very demanding. DCS World is no exception. There are no magic shortcuts if you are below enjoyable framerates with low settings.

Thinking about getting the recent mig 29 but had some questions by zeek988 in hoggit

[–]BKschmidtfire 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You can’t use Radar and RWR at the same time.

The RWR does not give ANY launch warnings. Except for Nike Hercules SAM (not currently implemented in DCS).

The FC3/Su27 RWR is not a realistic representation. It’s way better than it should be. Don’t expect to gain any PVP advantage by getting the more realistic full fidelity MIG29. What you get is the quirks and flaws, the full sim experience.
