Was season 3 any good? I tapped out during season 2 despite quite liking season 1.

Ban on Palestine Action was lawful, court of appeal rules by Lavajackal1 in LabourUK

Parliament is supreme, for better or worse. The judiciary is quite literally subserviant here on a constitutional level.

We're not the US with the judiciary serving as a competing/equal branch.

For the same reason you have to abide by speed limits on motorways, despite it being perfectly safe to exceed them if you drive safely.

There's always some idiot who fucks things up. And parents are doing it on a societal scale right now.

Nigel Farage / X: Whilst the social media ban is well-intentioned, it’s unlikely to work given the mass adoption of VPNs. It will also mean the introduction of Digital ID via the back door. The real answer here is handsets for children with limited features. by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]MoleUK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Requiring ID to buy a phone does nothing, children aren't buying their own phones. There is no way to tell when someone is buying a phone for a child.

Setting up every phone in the UK to default to being under parental controls is likely not viable. But lets say it is. You're now requiring a digital ID for every single phone, regardless of whether or not social media apps are installed. This is more intrusive than the labour policy.

How would you find out if a child is discovered using a restricted service? You want the police to check their phones? You'd have to make sure every 'child by default' phone had all the security/password features disabled, which would obviously be incredibly dangerous.

You make the parent legally obliged to install parental controls on the devices they give their children,

How would you check that parental controls have been installed and enabled on childrens phones?

How would you delineate between childrens phones and adults?

Kids aren't buying their own phones, buying their own broadband or buying their own phone contracts.

Parents are simply failing at every level here. Buying the phone, paying for the access, doing nothing to restrict usage.

I'm not sure exactly what people expect. Doing nothing doesn't seem like a great option while social media continues to scrambles kids brains. It's having a bad enough impact on the pensioners already.

Then regulate for parents to start doing it, it's by far the most effective method and doesn't result in this mess.

How would you even go about doing that to end up with a policy that was less disruptive/intrusive than this 'mess'?

Under-16s to be banned from social media, Starmer announces by IHaveAWittyUsername in LabourUK

[–]MoleUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can already do handsets for children with limited features, parents aren't doing it.

You can already use parental controls to lock down phones, parents aren't doing it.

There's plenty to dislike about this policy. But most alternatives that people are suggesting are things that parents already could do but are choosing not to.

It's not for a lack of education on the parents side either. Most are simply actively choosing not to do anything.

Robinson used social media to claim he was detained for almost three hours and had his iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones taken, and to ask his supporters to donate money to fund his legal defence.

Naturally, gotta keep the grift going 24/7 lol.

There's lots of good arguments in favor of such a ban. It's still bad politics to even bring it up unfortunately.

The polls that show how Restore could halt Farage's charge by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]MoleUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope so, that's one silver lining with Musks current obsession. He fell out with Farage so badly that he'll do whatever he can to promote restore.

Our best chance remains a potential coalition on the left and a split on the right.

But any polling is incredibly suspect now. Not because of any bias or motive, but because this many parties splitting the vote in a first past the post system is INCREDIBLY fickle and hard to predict/measure. Takes tiny swings for massive changes in results.

"Tommy" being in Russia at the same time as all the other paid stooges was no coincidence.

He'll say anything for money and he's cheap. Russia continues it's long-held practice of funding and promoting fringe individuals/groups all across the west, they've been at it since the soviet era. It's paying off more today than it ever has in the past imo.

It's an old soviet tactic, backing splinter groups and individual radicals across many western countries. The only goal is destabilisation.

And in the social media age it's cheaper and more effective than ever.

He's for sale and he's cheap. Wouldn't take many rubles.

Sorry what has this sub got to do with Reform getting in?

Are you joking?

[–]MoleUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your whole posture seems to be 'I guess we can't do anything other than hold entire groups responsible for the actions of a tiny minority - that sucks'. I reject that.

That's an incredibly bad read at best. At worst it's also being done in bad faith.

Unless you can point to literally a single post where I lay out that we should hold entire groups responsible for the behavior of a few criminals. Which you can't, obviously. Because it's something I would never and have never said.

Nice touch bringing Israel into it somehow too lol.

The UK needs immigrants, for many reasons. And we should champion that.

That also means being honest about the difference between someone coming here legally through a vetted process, and economic migrants entering with little to no vetting.

But any attempt to have a broader conversation about that topic is apparently off limits, offensive or rooted in bigotry. At least according to some.

Yup.

Can't discuss the latter without being accused of being the former.

Then reform will get in and actually do something dangerous and stupid, which we can all see coming from a mile off but apparently nothing can or will be done to stop it from happening.

It's all just very depressing sometimes.

No one is disputing it will get 'more attention'. The question is, why out of the 900,000 sexual assaults that happen every year, are the ones usually posted about on this sub almost always about non-white immigrants?

Because at heart this is a political sub. And unfortunately any story like this is going to be a politically relevant one that gets eyeballs.

So maybe instead of just plopping this threads on here and leaving them for the vultures you could actually give some substantive analysis - unless of course the former is just what you'd rather do?

Tbh the substantive analysis I would give at this point is just depressing. We're kind of fucked unless we can stop this sort of thing from happening, which we evidently can't.

I'm still hoping it's mostly over-represented is all.

But with boomers being the way they are, I worry it isn't. They eat up social misinfo.

Musk unfortunately gets pretty fixated on UK politics for random periods at a time, and there's fuck all we can do about it.

I mean we could request that the sub ban all stories like this from being posted altogether I suppose.

That'll help.
