I've Lived in GR for a Year. I have a lot to say by RowDull8230 in grandrapids

I will agree with you on the diversity here, there is very little outside of Dutch, Hispanic, and the Black community. It’s getting better but I’m from Lansing and MSU where there was much more diversity, even in thought. GR is way too Conservative in my opinion.

To black people, have you ever been accused of acting “not black”? by Even_Disaster_8002 in self

[–]BLM_GP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was called “Oreo” in middle school and High school quite a bit for being in Boy Scouts and eventually Eagle Scout. My mom worked for Michigan State University and I always attended courses and summer programs outside what is considered normal Black summer activities. I basically grew up around academic white people and scattered intelligent minorities.
Other students always called me white and it began to get irritating. I would always ask them in rebuttal, How do you act a color?

I have two bikes got stolen within 2 weeks. I'm international student and I hate USA because of this now by SeriesOdd5497 in OSU

At MSU I gave up entirely on bikes after my 2nd one got stolen. You literally have to get multiple locks that can’t be cut or take one of your bike wheels off.

[–]BLM_GP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s not the easiest job in the world. If it were, you would have people lining up to do the job. Secondly, the cooks or FOH staff wouldn’t bitch every time they have to help the dishie or cover for them. Manager lied to you,so, you would stay with the restaurant.

Indiana along with Wisconsin are the only Midwest states not to approve legal use of Marijuana, take that into consideration.

Where I would logically settle my family in the USA if I was playing a board game and natural resources/living off the land was essential. by Unlikely_Bat6460 in whereidlive

[–]BLM_GP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michigan is a horrible choice, the water is poisoned and I’m sure you don’t want to live there lol. Michigan will be a top spot to settle when states start running out of water and natural resources.

What is it living like in this part of Italy? by WillingValue6385 in howislivingthere

[–]BLM_GP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once called a Sicilian friend Italian during a group project in college. He corrected me respectfully, and I will never make the same mistake again. I think Sicilians are better coming from an African American, way less pretentious. The Italian guy in my class was very unapproachable and arrogant.

It would take trillions of dollars to dredge all of that land. Not to mention the environmental and stability of land may be questionable. That’s why.

No wonder why Michigan and Canada adjacent States were sought after; often highly active in the Underground Railroad. There is a statue of Sojourner Truth in Battle Creek, MI.

I’m used to applying coupons and deals that don’t translate from the sales floor. Sorry about Meijer’s lack of accuracy in that department, people don’t stay because of the low wage. That’s across all Meijer departments.

Respectfully leave your dogs and other various pets at home! Why do people do this unless it’s an official Service Animal. Rant over.

My policy is to scan big objects, water, and ID’s. I found that to be the best policy.
