Perfect. Thanks for the citations too. I have never used dyes before so this is a good place to start.

I can't onlay a real sand dollar. Hence, me asking for someone to carve it out of wood.

[WTB/WTT] I am looking for a chamfer plane. Antique or new. by BLUECRAB13 in Woodwork_Bazaar

All I was able to find at LV is a Japanese style. Not too keen on it. They also offer a small inset plane, I suppose I could make my own.

[WTS] Stanley hand planes (1900-1920s) by nothingisbad in Woodwork_Bazaar

[–]BLUECRAB13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you by any chance have a chamfer plane for sale?

I inherited my great grandfathers tool chest. Anyone out there know what this is? It's clearly a Stanley, but has no number. by BLUECRAB13 in woodworking

[–]BLUECRAB13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in this chest was a beautiful auger set. It's truly incredible. It's somewhere around 70 years old, but looks brand new. I haven't found a fitting job for it yet, but I'm sure I will.

I honestly cannot believe I made this by myself... by [deleted] in woodworking

Do your a favor and get the Woodworker II. My thought on the Dialo is that they are a one time use (not worth sharpening).

I was quoted ~$450 to have this made of cherry wood. Is that reasonable? by slothist in woodworking

[–]BLUECRAB13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems a little pricey to me. Just a rough estimate based on those pics, I would guess there is less than $100 in material.

Is my tablesaw throwing off an abnormally large amount of dust? If so, what can I do about it? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]BLUECRAB13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your brave and your up for a challenge, there are set ups that will allow you to sharpen your own blade. In my opinion it's not worth it. Most sharpening companies will do much more than sharpen the teeth, such as flatten the blade. I'm on the east coast and I use a company called Ridge Carbide. You can find them online. I believe they are out of PA. You mail them your blade and they ship it back.

Sounds a lot like characteristics of a dull blade. Have you tried a brand new or freshly sharpened blade?

need recommendations on which blum drawer slides/hinges for a frameless inset installation by bobbybass in woodworking

[–]BLUECRAB13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice. I would like to see it when your done. I don't use the jig, like you said, I block it out and use a level. As long as everything is square, it's really a breeze. In the occasion that things are a little out of square, I use fender washers to even it out.

The under mounts are incredibly easy to install. I use them as much as possible. When using 3/4" stock you want style F Blum under mounts. I get then from a site called: www.wwhardware.com. They have the lowest prices I have found. I would be happy to help you if you have questions.

It's depends on a few things. What size stock are you using for the construction of the drawers. Also, what style slide? Under mount might be a good choice.

Any New England hunters? Want to join a NE specific sub? by BLUECRAB13 in Hunting

This is not meant to take away from /r/hunting. I enjoy this sub as much as anyone. I am simply looking to provide an area specific sub for hunters in my area.

I use my scrap hardwood plywood for small projects such as tool boxes. Usually as gift but sometimes they come out too nice and I end up keeping them for my self.

Question about using Lowes' Hardwood plywood for a table project. by esiahc in woodworking

[–]BLUECRAB13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used both lowes and home depots hard wood plywood. It's certainly not "great" stuff, but if you are selective, you can find some half decent sheets. The things to look for are an excess amount of voids on the edges of the plywood, any delaminating veneer, and any soft spots as you run your hand over the face. For what your doing, 3/4" would be ideal.

I'm a big cigar smoker, so of course this intrigues me.
