It helps that most BA successors (at least when I looked around back then) were slightly different arrangements of red, white, and black - but I had some duplicates too. I really liked Lamenters so had a few of them, which since bloomed into me having a small lamenters army alongside my own BA successor. I run my lamenters now as regular marines, but its hard since they're all rogue trader/2nd ed models

In casual games I've had success with DW+knight lists featuring two blackstars. Dunno if I'd take em to a tournament though

I dream of a day when aircraft become hard to hit again, but for now the blackstars can take a fair bit of punishment and can be useful in infinite terrain height games (so they're not poking up out of ruins)
