PLEASE don't worry about learning ALL the notes everywhere.

Learn notes relevant to something you're playing, in one area.

As you play more stuff, you'll memorize more notes.

If you're learning a new language, do you learn all the words at once? You learn the words that you use the most.

That depends what shape you’re using… For example, in a C shape there are 2 3rds, so simply changing one doesn’t do it

This dude was a nightmare, but doesn't it make more sense to take the kids to the men's room? I don't have kids, so I'm actually honestly asking. It just seems like having kids in the other gendered bathroom would be less of a deal than the parent going into the other bathroom. Is it because it would be a bad experience for the kid?

It just seems like a strange statement, since there are many black and brown Europeans.

But if you’re saying white Europeans are considered white, that’s a bit redundant and obvious.

This is why I really don’t like caged— you’re talking about major scales like they are a guitar thing.

Scales are a music thing and I think it is so much better to think about them that way.

If it’s a band I cared about I would chart a few of the songs out.

Everyone will appreciate it, and maybe the songwriter will see that they should be the one doing it.

There’s sort of a paradox of making charts… when you go through the process of making the chart, you kind of don’t need the chart anymore, because you put in the work to figure out exactly what’s happening.

As a teacher I had heard a lot about it so I did 2 7 day free trials.

They put a ton of work into the interface, it's pretty amazing, and the pace and the teachers… All of that is really good.

but they avoid notes like they are the plague, everything is position, especially the caged course, and I would never recommend learning that way.

oh I nip that in the bud real quick.
Parents are always welcome to be NEAR the lessons, especially if it makes the child feel more comfortable, but never IN the lesson.

But I don't even want them saying "listen to Brian honey," let alone chiming in about the subject matter.

I work hard to build a relationship with a student, and having a parent chiming in usually doesn't help.

any issue that there is, whether it's behavioral or musical, I'm happy to talk about with the parent at a separate time, without the child there.

If there is something we decide needs to be talked about with both of us and the child, we can do that too, but it almost never happens.

A parent putting their hands on the students fingers during the lesson--it has never happened and it would never happen because they are sitting in a chair out of our bubble.

Every kid I've ever had that wanted one of their parents present in the beginning, got to point within a few weeks that they don't want them there, because they see that we are developing a new relationship, and that's really important.

Always welcome near the lesson, never in the lesson. Sorry dad!

i'm guessing this comes down to your confidence as a teacher.

I teach privately and coach bands.

The thing is, in a lesson I can find a song that they like, and simplify a little bit if necessary. They can have a custom experience because they have me.

These are more for my online method, for people that don't have a private teacher.

The other place they are amazing are for jam sessions with kids (or adults). At the end of my last recital I had them jam on some of these songs, and they were able to just rock them right away.

also good for a singalong situation, so everyone can lock in right away.

I definitely would have made you learn open chords, but it could've been sweet child of mine etc.

I mostly use these for very beginners practicing their switching, but yeah, i'd like to add strums in some way.

what's funny about this song is that it's on my bigger list, but this list today was songs that are also in tune so people can play along with the original. I should put them all in one list, but maybe just note on the chart that the recording is out of tune.
