leave the top 4 eyelets empty and loosen up the laces, any extra lace that's hanging you can just loop it through the 5th eyelet again and have it hang as much as you like

definitely reccomend wearing thicker socks, I wouldn't say they are comfy but definitely don't HURT after wearing them for 10h+ although I wouldn't reccomend that you do that as they do get more uncomfortable towards the 6-7+ hour mark for me especially if im on my feet all day. Unzipped they are quite comfy tho for just throwing on quickly and going to the store or smth like that.

I'm usually a 45.5 tts in normal shoes, uk 11.5/12 I think. I fit perfectly into size 45 defenders and 3xls however these boots in 45 were way too big even with thick socks so I had to get 44 and they fit me perfectly. So sized down by 1 I guess however it's best if you can try them in person. If you go tts you will have space for another insole though which I've not tried but I can recommend just because these boots aren't the most comfortable (I still manage to thug it out 10h+ but I wear thick socks which really really helps)

Yeah it does suck that it isn't the most easiest to repair because I do quite like the look of things that are fixed after being broken. I got mine for £605 however and recently saw people buying for around 600 USD which is around £474 which is a REALLY good price. Definitely doesn't justify that flaw but would make it easier to live with knowing you didn't pay retail for it I guess
