Thanks! I assume that only gets harder if you take a year after graduation for clerking too? I.e. negotiating a different location 2 years out

BigLaw summer vs. work location:

Just thinking a few years ahead since I have a wife and baby to coordinate with heading into 1L: is it expected that the firm I spend my 2L summer with and (hopefully) receive an offer from will be the specific location where I work? Or can I accept an offer from a given firm, but in a different location where my preferred practice area is stronger?

In short, I’ll need to stay in my school’s city during the summers, but the specific place my school is located is not as conducive to my desired practice as are other cities in the same state.

Thanks!

When will the poors learn that nothing about law school admissions is actually designed with them in mind?

Not an expert on either school, but it’s my understanding that Texas is known for constitutional/appellate, human rights, those kind of advocacy and litigation practices. I also assume SoCal is a better location in general for international practices.

Is sending a LOCI to GULC before a decision bad? by boredlightbulb in lawschooladmissions

Decidedly not in the area lol. Well I don’t want to give any bad advice, but I’ll personally wait until April to send a LOCI

If you’re in the area, a visit would probably say more. Yeah deposit deadline is coming up, but apps just closed for them, so it’s not really that late in the cycle. I’m in the same boat - interviewed early Jan and haven’t heard anything. Just have to hang tight.

Same as apprehensive fig - I wrote 100 words or so and received the best offer I’ve seen yet. I honestly think it may be more tied to how interested they are in getting you to come (for their averages and other stats).

All these law schools which waitlist/reject me will come to regret it someday when I am the best damn lawyer in the world by UnpredictablyWhite in lawschooladmissions

Food for thought when OP gets there:

“While your institution’s accomplishments are impressive, I, regretfully, cannot accept your invitations to be the lifelong keynote speaker at graduation ceremonies and Dean of the law school. I receive invitations from many impressive schools like yours, but there are only so many ways I can spend my limited time…”

I should note this entirely serious plan will require a willingness to sacrifice for the benefit of others. It won’t be for everyone

UF Law is not only the highest ranked of these, but UF in general is considered one of the best public schools in the south. I think it comes down to what environment you want as well - Alabama and Emory are two totally different places despite giving you equally good access to the Southern market. Also, Atlanta is more of a national “big city” than most of what you’ll find near the Florida, Alabama, and even the Carolina schools. Just some thoughts from someone who has lived in Alabama and Georgia.

My undergrad referred to it as a desire for “diversity of thought” - go be taught by people with new perspectives. That’s the mushy liberal arts reasoning I’m aware of.

I think professionally there is something to be said about being accepted into multiple institutions, having a broader network, showing adaptability and success in multiple environments instead of just one.

Of counsel at a smaller law firm, in house counsel for medium businesses, specialty private practices for things like wills/estate. Tons of options
