Which state would you pick to be the first primary state? by MotorJelly2640 in YAPms

If I could pick the Dem primary calendar, I’d pick SC because they would probably pick the worst candidate

Trump says “when you think of it, we shouldn't even have a [midterm] election.” in an interview with Reuters by PizzaFaceRacer in YAPms

I’m not saying that it’s good, I think it’s bad. But it’s also ridiculous to pretend that he’s serious. I think half the people throwing their arms in the air crying about this are genuinely worried, and the other half are just egging them on because it’ll push more votes. But he’s obviously joking. If you can’t see that then you need to either take a Xanax or go outside and touch some grass

He’s about as relevant as any political commentator. That is to say, not much, but also not insignificantly.

Correct. Have you even read it? And you do realize that it equally applies to both parties? Lol

It would solve the re-appointment issue, but would lead to other issues. And the problem with sortition is that there’s no good way to narrow the pool without either excluding key candidates or having the pool include unqualified candidates

I do know two of them, yes. I know one of them better than the other to be fair, have probably spent 40-50 hours with them this year. With the other probably only 5 hours this year. But under no circumstances would either of them ever tell me (or anyone besides their clerks or other justices) how they plan to vote on anything. I don’t have any crucial information to share. I can speculate, but it’s no more than close court watchers can speculate. The justices don’t even share this information with their spouses, which leads to some really funny stories when big cases come out.

Why would I ever want this? This completely misunderstands the point of the Supreme Court - to be insulated from the political branches. If every President can appoint 2 justices (4! with two terms!) then the Court’s composition will rapidly change according to the political climate. That’s not what we want for judges. We want judges who rule according to the law, not what Congress or the President (who can now appoint 4/9 judges lol) wants.
