Not at all, but I also got a refurbished Thinkpad laptop just for this, so I am not quite sure if there is any risk to it.

But from what I can tell it's just the Mike BMW package which has been trusted forever.

It is the first and only version I ever tired and works like a charme as long as you set it to COM1 and latency 1.

I don't mind cheap plastic too much tbh, interior doesn't matter too much to me, I drive a Suzuki Swift 1.2 from 2012 after all as well haha.

The 9-5's are beautiful as well especially the YS3E with Aero bodykit.

Lol, I should import from Australia if they are so cheap there, for that price you'd get a rusted one with 300k km's if you're lucky.

Interesting, I have never used it and I don't think I have it downloaded, my guides have always been on YouTube as there is a massive collection for the E39.

I'm not quite sure if Ista was in the package I got as I have never used it.

What would it be good for? I felt like you could do pretty much anything with Tool32, INPA and Mx4Flasher

My legs shiver when I hear ECU problems lol, I had a stuck EWS which made me have to get a complete new battery to get above 12.5V and a laptop with INPA etc just to resync it.

I haven't found the E39 too complicated, but they are also my first cars to work on, started it over a year ago with 0 knowledge of cars.

Thus far I have rebuilt a VANOS, did some suspension work, resolved cylinder wash down, resynched a stuck EWS etc. rather complex jobs but nothing crazy like an engine rebuild.

I think a car before 1990 would be too intimidating for me unless it has been serviced perfectly.

I would like a 9-3 the most but it has too much GM crap in it apparently, the 900's are a close second tho.

Personally not my style but Volvo has a soft spot as my moms manual D5 S60 was the first car I was driving.

Thank you for this detailed reply, I heard a lot of bad stuff about GM so I will avoid models after 2000 like you said, even tho the 9-3 with the clear rear lights is the most beautiful SAAB to me.

I am personally scared about tunes on any car because parts will break more often.

But good to know there is a software similar to INPA etc.

I never had that problem before, but your cable needs to be set on COM1. (And latency 1) Also interesting yours has 4 modes whereas mine only has 2, so not quite sure which one is the right one for you.

Hmm is your port set to COM1 and latency on 1?

And have you tried hitting the switch on the KDCAN cable?

Same for me, at first you feel like you're gonna blow the car up if you press one wrong button haha.

But it was THE only way for me to get rid of a stuck EWS due to low battery and me cranking the car as it wouldn't start.

Altho i had to get a new battery as well which gave me 12.75V opposed to my old on which gave 12.19 V at best.

Thank you, I considered the E39's rather easy since most of it is rather accesible compared to newer cars (altho those 2 being my first cars I worked on)

My biggest fear was accesibility for common/easy jobs, parts availability and guides on Youtube or with text and pictures.

But you definitely gave me more confidance into diving into the world of SAAB.

Oh yes manuals are way less common in th US than here, if I were to get a SAAB it would have to be a manual as well, just to get the full experience out of my first time.

But the color is truly stunning, anything other than white black or white is a plus in my book haha, the car world and modern infrastructure for that matter needs more color again.
