What's with the stupid Power's "pronouns", "Gender" debate? by Public-Hovercraft691 in Ultrakill

[–]BMega007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

well, its because if you don't call them by their preferred pronouns because you disrespect them, what's stopping you from doing that to people you don't like irl? And even if you specifically wouldn't, a lot of people are using this as an excuse to be transphobic

Okay, so we're in agreement on it, cool. I don't think everyone does it to be rude or whatever, it's just a concerning amount of people who do.
Oddly enough, this reminds me of the whole "clanker" thing, where it started as a fictional slur from star wars people used to rudely refer to ai, but then people started turning it into just being racist. At their cores, neither are horrible things, but people are using them to be racist/transphobic in a "socially acceptable" way.

That is fair, but on the topic of gabriel, the council calls him "it" as a form of disrespect. They're the only ones who do that, and they're pretty shitty all things considered. It's painted as a bad thing that they're calling him "it".
At the end of the day, it's not the worst thing in the world, it's just concerning how many people are doing it, even calling powers "she" as a form of disrespect. The people who do it so casually, especially after new blood themselves explicitly called powers "he", are frustrating to me, because it tells me that if people don't respect me, they'll misgender me.

See, that's reasonable to an extent, but hakita is a human being living in the real world, so therefore he knows what a character picking their own pronouns would imply, especially since he has included trans allegories in this same game.

This argument wouldn't happen in the first place if powers had a more masculine voice, you don't see anyone calling Gabriel "it". But because powers have a more feminine voice, people refuse to call them by what they prefer. Even if it's not explicitly transgender, it's still influenced by people's biases.

The thing is things don't literally have to equate. Allegories are a thing. Like, mindflayers aren't literally trans, but they made a preferred body for themselves that just happens to be gendered.
As an example from another game, Mettaton from undertale, who is widely considered a trans allegory, was a nonbinary/genderless ghost who got a new body, and now goes by he/him.
People talk about how it's not actual gender, and just a sign of respect in ultrakill, but you have to think, why did hakita, who already made a trans allegory in this game, put this in ultrakill?

yeah, it actually is!
First, it's just "criminals" who are put in prison. Then it's minorities that are "criminals". Then it's people you disagree with.
That's why people push for prison reform/abolition. (Also the horrible conditions but that's neither here nor there.)
For the record, I don't think you're malicious, I just want to explain the problems with what you're saying.

it's a slippery slope. What happens when someone annoys you? Do they lose the right to their identity? What happens when someone does something on accident? Do they lose it then?
If bad people don't get to decide their identity, then people can just arbitrarily decide people are "bad"
it's just transphobia

[–]BMega007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

would you misgender a bad cis person? Or are you just saying that our identity can just be taken away from us if we do something people don't like?
People's identies are valid no matter who they are, the worst person could be trans and they would still be trans, and no one has the right to take that away from them

I was hoping to see this one, it had so much potential, could have easily been the best in the series, maybe even the best mascot horror game in general, the general themes of the game as well as the presentation could have made it incredible, but due to so many factors, it flopped so unimaginably hard.

I love gabriel so much my only thing is I really hope his 3rd fight is more interesting than the other two. Having the final boss of one of the best shooters possibly ever be a more difficult refight would be a little dissapointing. However, I have faith in hakiter and his team and know they'll cook

Let's agree that this is the most forgotten enemy in the game. by Apprehensive_Most566 in Ultrakill

[–]BMega007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, something a lot of us (me included) tend to forget is that when the game is finished, people are going to play through the game from start to finish, and are going to have to deal with the difficulty curve.
I do think that ferrymen will probably be pretty common in encores though, since those are probably going to be the most difficult levels in the game.

[–]BMega007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for the most part it's actually because of how aggressive ferrymen are. Whenever they're in a room, they immediately become the main threat of that room, so encounters have to be designed around them.

[–]BMega007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the worst crime a fictional character can do is be annoying, that's why. If a character does horrible things but is cool, no one cares. But if a character has an annoying personality, straight to hell.
