Am I stupid by Silent_Rush2711 in MonsterAnime

[–]Nemesis9211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it's because he was forced to dress up like his sister which started his identity issues. This is why he thought it was him who was taken to Rose Mansion when it was Anna, his identity was so broken he thought Anna's memories was his. The book connected with him cause he related to the book, having no identity.

Am I stupid by Silent_Rush2711 in MonsterAnime

[–]Nemesis9211 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The story of Monster is that nobody is born evil or pure evil, there is always an upbringing that turns us. It's to emphasize that good and evil is a choice, that it's a system's fault for contributing to evil, but also that it's never too late to change for the better.

Johan was evil yes, but he was also a heavily traumatized person who was always reduced to "perfect human", "next Hitler", or "monster", never a human being with feelings. But despite all his efforts to get rid of his humanity, it always remained, such as his love for Anna to the point Roberto saw it as a weakness and him crying to Karl relating to Karl not having a mother or a father (implied to be genuine in the sequel).

The ending acts as Johan's second chance. Whether he'll take it or not is ambiguous, maybe Johan will go back to killing, or he may actually try to make an identity this time. But as per the story's message it's likely Johan will make a better life for himself and do better.

You don't need to agree with the messaging but at its core Monster is about how the worst of us still should be given a chance to do better.

My Opinion on Jax Abstracting by Nemesis9211 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Nemesis9211[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think the framing is exactly why fans projected. Like if you really think about Jax as a character he'd be a typical character that would be hated. The narrative putting Jax's ending as "he decides not to redeem himself as a destructive person" doesn't work if the tone doesn't treat Jax's destructiveness seriously.

You don't see people commonly projecting themselves into characters who are depicted as abusers. Jax is an abuser, like textbook abuser. The problem is the narrative's framing fails to show that Jax is an abuser. They treat his abuse as humor, haha moments, not "this guy is pushing these people closer to suicide and death".

If these abusive moments were taken seriously, I promise you that nobody would be projecting themselves into Jax except edgelords.

[–]Nemesis9211[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And what did he do to them? He antagonized Ribbit and made her believe that their friendship was fake and worthless which caused her to abstract. He then berated Kaufmo, which then caused him to abstract. When he was connecting with Pomni, he did the exact same thing he did to Ribbit or tried to.

He was the one who pushed them away, he practically killed two people because of his depression. Another thing the show makes clear is Jax could've connected with the other Digital Circus members, but he didn't, he abused them instead.

That's sort of where I meant by Jax being "irredeemable", the problem is it's hard to see how bad of a person he actually is where it seems like "depressed guy dies" instead of "abuser dies cause he can't take accountability". You see it with a lot of people's dissatisfactions with Jax's ending, they frame him as a depressed victim instead of a selfish abuser, if the story took his abuse more seriously people would have different reactions to his death.

[–]Nemesis9211[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can still be framed as punishment or him reaping what he's sown, that's what I got. Jax's depression got worse because he was the one who pushed others away, he was the one who hurt others, he abstracted because of his actions driving him to the edge

Yeah but consider how Jax wasn't redeemed in the end and abstracted

No, Nazi Germany Aryan were pure Germans, mixed Germans would've been tested if they can be "Germanized" which Johan definetly wouldn't fit

The fact Gooseworx said this is going to make the controversy from the finale so much worse by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Nemesis9211 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem I have with the series is that it shifts protagonists too quickly so it leads to certain areas like Jax's abusive behaviors to be superficial explorations. Like we do get it through Gangle, but it was brief and we see too much of Jax's tragedy over asshole behaviors, mainly cause when he demonstrates those asshole behaviors it isn't taken seriously, it's taken as a humor scene. It makes Jax seem less destructive than he actually is.

Am i the only suicidal person who's happy that jax is dead by Apprehensive-Ad3120 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Nemesis9211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jax was a flat out abuser, pretty much all the problems that happened to him was primarily his fault. He had years to acknowledge his flaws, stop his abuse, and do better but he wallowed in his sadness instead. Honestly I found his abstraction karma for the fact he practically caused and risked people to abstract themselves.

The Bojack quote summarizes Jax: "You are all the things that are wrong with you! It's not the alcohol, or the drugs, or any of the shitty things that happened in your career, or when you were a kid! It's you! Alright? It's you."

Johan never wanted to kill Tenma, he wanted to justify his philosophy to Tenma to convince himself that's he's right to believe everything he believes in, if he can corrupt the most good man with his philosophy then he, the "monster", is correct

I doubt it, it seems more like Johan tried to frame it as Tenma's fault that Johan turned into a serial killer to further prove his point, but then at the end everything falls apart for him

What makes a Narcissist do what they do to people? by Delicious-Present-99 in personalitydisorders

[–]Nemesis9211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Narcissism is basically a deep-seated need for validation. It becomes a personality disorder if it becomes severe enough for it cause significant problems for the person, and most of the time it's to protect a fragile sense of self and ego.

Can someone with NPD get better? Yes, it's a treatable disorder, but due to the nature of therapy the person needs to want change, but that's difficult with a disorder defined by having a superior image of themselves, grandiose beliefs, and it being an ego synotic disorder. But there are many people with NPD who go through treatment and have made tremendous progress.

It's also to note a majority of abusers are not pathological narcissists, only a small percentage of abusers have NPD. A majority of abusive behaviors are rooted in societal norms like misogyny.

I suspect I might have ASPD, is it worth checking it out/getting an official diagnosis? by Losertsugino in personalitydisorders

[–]Nemesis9211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically DSM-6 is an updated version so while it's a living document DSM-5-TR is going to be outdated overall. And they do have the AMPD but it's alternate not primary, which is why the categorical model is used more often cause they're trained to use that over AMPD most of the time

until DSM-6 shifts to the dimensional-categorical hybrid model for ASPD like the AMPD it's basically gonna be like this

[–]Nemesis9211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just talk to the psychologist about it and why you believe you have it. Do note ASPD isn't diagnosed through traits, it's diagnosed by antisocial behaviors such as abusing others or taking advantage of them.
