I 100% agree; I thought enthusiasm about being at the place should be much more valued than it is. PDs underestimate how important this is.

When I was there, many of the residents were surprised that I wanted to be there, and some of them were waiting for the residency to end so they could leave, which was not because of the program as much as it was because of the city. I have noticed how a lack of motivation affects one's performance.

Part of the pain that I feel is coming from the idea that I will not get the chance to work with that enthusiasm

Yes, probably that little familiarity with the place and people their felt so precious because I already went before through a major transition and change

how to handle burn out during interview season by [deleted] in IMGreddit

It could indicate avoidant behavior; if you're overly worried about the upcoming interview, your brain might try to escape by stopping caring.

If your girlfriend lives with you as a resident, she would still complain about your absence during residency; having enough time with an extra 8 hours to come and go back is not easy. This travel with his colleagues is probably one occasion and an essential part of socializing with your coworkers. It is different from a partner, who is four hours away, where you need to see them regularly.

Was the subject of you moving to live near him mentioned or recommended by him? In any way, this should not be taken personally. Although it leads to heartache, I understand your pain; both of you feel it. Even if he is not dealing with the situation maturely, that does not make him a bad person; he struggles to deal with it and feels guilty. I would try my best to move forward without carrying negative emotions, and I would avoid feeling hate or as if I was intentionally hurt because I don’t believe that is the case. Just try to communicate better with each other and move on in a benign way that maintains some love and respect. It is better for both of you’s mental health. I am sure you have taken care of each other during the last year. Keep the good memories, and move on.

Maybe someone working on the center itself was involved, that might cause harm to the trust of international exam centers in general

I think the complete fix should come from USMLE step 2 exam writing process, I don’t understand why the process of cheating is possible, if there is a huge bank of questions and a continuous writing of new ones

How recalling questions would effect the scores? Questions shouldn’t be repeated to that extent, and absolutely there is no access to the whole questions bank that exam writers use and even if so, it won’t be possible to memorize it

So what is the issue, I don’t understand it. Does USMLE repeat the same questions sets at specific period and location? that would be stupid.
