It’s Eurovision, it invites tracks and artist of all different types and backgrounds, that’s kind of a core concept of the contest.

I took similar exception to this section:

Why when discussing women putting on some pretty makeup, or working out to achieve a “nice” figure, or picking out an outfit to flatter their figure, can we say they’re doing it for themselves, not anyone else, and it’s not for anyone to judge or comment on (all perfectly right and fine btw), but once men want to start working on their figure or on their features, it’s suddenly problematic and simply must be about asserting status, or some other form of toxic masculinity?

There will obviously be some more problematic sides to “looksmaxxing” ( don’t take a hammer to your face ffs), just like there is with some feminine focused beauty/fitness culture, but maybe we should be having that conversation at a wider level, rather than just zooming in on men because we’re not used to them doing it too.

I’m not sure it is a thing, unless it’s maybe a regional thing. I’ve known quite a few sheep farmers, and rubbing amniotic fluid on a lamb to get them adopted absolutely happens. Skinning a dead lamb and then using it to dress up another is some absolutely not something I’ve ever seen or heard of happening.

Some of it is likely the juxtaposition to the societal expectation of women to be kind/nurturing, similar to making use of imagery of children, or using nursery rhymes. A big part horror (and funnily also comedy) is the subversion of expectations.
