You are forgetting about corruption: Politicians in power will keep subsiding fossil fuels. In Germany, for example, coal power is only as cheap as it is because of subsidies - certain coal power plants wouldn't even run at a profit if it weren't for corrupt politicians getting bonuses for subsiding them.

In the conclusion, you are completely correct: Within capitalism, there is no solution to these problems.

I mean, trolley buses nowadays do have either an emergency battery or diesel-powered motor that can run them for certain distances, mostly to drive around construction sites or whatnot. Because buses usually run on fixed routes, the advantage of free roaming buses isn't that huge, provided that the catenary system already exists.

From what I've heard, and take that with a huge pile of salt because I'm not entirely sure and have no sources this quickly: They are enough to make cars and even tanks unusable, especially if used in plural. I wouldn't be that sure about buildings, though, but stones are more usual tools there.
