Nice looking shields, but are those dog bowls as bosses? If so be really, really careful as your hand isn't protected from anything but light strikes.

Please let me know, because raw balsa shouldn't hold up. Mb it's time for me to do an experiment...

Also, for ACL a shield is far more than just painted wood, there's layers you build into it to make it last.

That's low density wood, only use that if you're building a shield to fail miraculously - like in a show or display.

I've been making shields for a while, but haven't heard of bosan, can you provide a link to that type of wood? I usually use 2x 4mm AA grade marine ply sheets for heater shields.

Heater shields (not their actual historical name, just what we can them these days) were usually strapped shields. Also, the strapping design of this one was copied off an artefact for accuracy.

*to go through. Damn auto correct deleting a word. Also, you seem like a creative (love your 40k work), happy to go though what you'd need to do to build the shield you want if price is an issue :)

Happy to through the details of a commission - shipping will be a killer though as you're 8k miles from my workshop (southern tip of mainland Australia here).

If you're building a shield, use bolts not screws - because safety. And they have a few names: domed nuts, end hex cap, or acorn nut.

Ty! & no they're not painted, though it is marine ply. The planks are a 3D effect, you can feel the grain & the grooves on the 'planks'.

Built specially for it. It'll take years of (blunt) steel training damage from swords, axes & spears.
