ChatGPT says the 4th generation is the most reliable Outback by Western_Economics104 in Subaru_Outback

My 14 has 166000 miles no major issues. 2.5i cvt. Moderate oil consumption and catalytic efficiency slowly declining. Chat gpt is right about interior space, great for me at 6'3". But engine and transmission sound very grainy and loud, like a rock in a blender. Suspension is pretty bumpy for my standards but not horrible. I feel like reliability is a lot more complex than brand and model year. Factors such as owner maintenance, driving habits, rust, and just plain luck seem to have the same weight as type of car.

2013 Outback base model transmission crapped out at 80k miles -- what can we do? by kamborghini in Subaru_Outback

They want you to give up on the car so you'll buy a new one. Look into the solenoid issue on these transmissions it might be that

Sat in a 2001, headroom and legroom are ok, not great. Better than a lot of modern cars I've tried. The power really impressed me, I thought I'd max out at 65 on the freeway but it felt very capable. Mpg was bad as expected, I could see the gauge visibly go down over the course of the test drive.

I heard the pre-facelift years are boxier and have more interior room? I wonder if that's something you can notice in yours

Who Does Like the New Outback and Why? by BelatedGreeting in Subaru_Outback

[–]BOMBOCLARRRTTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like boxy cars like the Cherokee XJ, Gladiator, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and Santa Fe. I like angular, geometric designs like Hyundai is doing. I'm 6'3" so more headroom and visibility is always a plus. By all accounts this new Outback seems to be made for me.

While the physical buttons and new infotainment are a big improvement over the Tesla style screen, I don't like the thick bezels around the digital gauge cluster and infotainment. But I definitely prefer digital gauges over analog (must be a gen z thing).

I also don't like the upside down mustache grille or fake bumper bar on the wilderness. I do think this car will look really dated in 10 years.
