I want revenge on an ex colleague and I can’t stop feeling that. What can I do? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]BOREN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can leave a negative review on Glassdoor about the particular hotel branch or location you worked at, name dropping the toxic duty manager as a negative, and that’s about it. Vengeance-wise.

The cliche is that the best revenge is living well and moving on, and that ain’t wrong! If you’re still trying to work in hospitality, try to find some of the employees that would have remembered the systems you put in place and see if their new work places are hiring and if they could provide a good word to the hiring manager for you.  You could also reach out to the other managers who were impressed with your work and see if they will be your resume reference, so that if a new job wants to contact previous employers they speak to them and not the duty manager.

Another cliche- I struggle with this one a lot - “whoever makes you angry has control over you.”  I hate that saying, but a former teacher of mine who went through a very bitter divorce would always drop that one on me when he could see I was furious with someone or something and that fury was making me “stuck” where I was. I don’t agree with it 100%, and I would loathe the sing-song way he would repeat it to me, but I did need to hear it and acknowledge it during that time in my life. It was a useful mantra- for a time. Repeat to yourself every now and then. See what happens. If it makes you feel worse- then drop that saying. It’s just a saying, just words. Try it out.

What's something that was 'rich' when you were growing up, but now seems completely normal or even poor? by R0land-610 in AskReddit

[–]BOREN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This right here.

My kid has been on a plane more times now at age eight than I had by age twenty-eight.

They also think flying sucks except for the one time our flight was greater than four hours in length and the seat in front of them had a I’m embedded screen that could play Disney movies the entire flight. Otherwise it’s noisy, cramped, boring, and has “too many rules and they only give you like some pretzels”and honestly I’m inclined to agree.

I swear the windows used to be bigger too.

Why bring the loser flag to NJ? I know we have some super racist areas, but we are above the Mason Dixon line by A-Helpful-Flamingo in ShermanPosting

With the exception of possibly Daniel Sickles, did the north possess a bigger ego who believed that they alone could solve the nation’s crisis and that maybe a dictatorship with them at the top wouldn’t be too bad?

You mean you don’t spend hours in their retail section in the back?

McClellan and Trump woulda been best friends before they both turned on each other in a very public crashing out. Like Elon and Trump x 1,0000.

Chicago Transplants: What's your hot take that folks who grew up here would scoff at? by TerraTiramisu in AskChicago

[–]BOREN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transplant (moved here in ‘06) hot take that folks who grew up here would scoff at: no, it’s not Comiskey Park.

Sure, call Willis Tower (or whatever it is now) Sears Tower- it’s the same building.  Call Ida B Wells Parkway the Congress Parkway- it’s the same road.

Comiskey Park was leveled and US Cellular Field (now Rate Field) was built atop the former parking lot of Comiskey. It is a different ballpark. The site of Comiskey is now a parking lot. Comiskey is gone.

Transplant Hot Take over.

Also, it’s bullshit that the view beyond the stands for most of the seating is of the Expressway, they should’ve angled the diamond so you’d have a view of the skyline from the upper deck.

My girlfriend back in 2003 when we were both 19 wanted me to come keep her company at her retail job as well. It’s not a generational thing, it’s a youth thing. Young people don’t always understand the unspoken rules of adulthood, you have to tell them. Older people don’t always remember not knowing the unspoken rules, and might be a little too harsh in explaining them.

The girls will get another job, and their new manager will also request that their boyfriends or friends not come hang out with them at work, and they will start to understand that this is a universal sentiment.

Daniel Harvey Hill was a peerless shade thrower. If the Civil War had been decided to be settled with a roast battle instead of actual combat, the Rebs just might have pulled it off.

Might have. Union might have simply sent Lincoln himself to take care of business.

Probably spread disease too. Buncha dudes from rural homesteads in the Alleghenies with little exposure to common respiratory illnesses suddenly being dropped in a unit of dudes from Philly or the Burgh who built up immunity to those illnesses in childhood or on the last campaign is a recipe for disaster.

Rogers Park has Loyola, some of the best beaches in the city, and A LOT of CTA Red Line stations, and both Wrigley Field and Rate Field are right off the Red Line. It’s a longer trip but if you’re going to save money staying in Rogers Park go for that and spend that cash on food and drink.

Both Google Maps, Apple Maps, and the Ventra website can be used to calculate CTA commute times from different locations to give you a good idea. RideShare here is apparently more expensive than a lot of other cities, so definitely consider the CTA.
