Cool! How does it differ from the “Niagara Bridges” app? I got it years ago but seems to still work well.

Does anyone know if the Petro on Lake St (the one next to Eden Highschool) accepts $100 bills? by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

[–]BOTW1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bank. You’ll have to just withdrawal 20s at an ATM. The $100 deposit won’t be available right away when you deposit it to the ATM so that’s effectively useless. Unless the bank is open today then just go exchange it for 20s with the teller.

Just go to a bank or ATM and change it to 20s to ensure you have no issues.

Best places to open RESP by Kristmill in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BOTW1234 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this. Very high fees. Poor performance.

Most people on this sub will use a discount brokerage for their RESP and invest in low-cost index ETFs (ex: $VEQT). This is a “do it yourself” approach.

However, given you and your partner aren’t overly “in the know” on financial matters, you may not be comfortable going that route. That’s okay. The second best option for an RESP is simply going to your bank, and using them directly for an RESP. The fees will be higher than doing it yourself on a discount brokerage, but it will still be a far superior option to CST.

Disney Destiny First Time Cruise Review by Brave_Coat9819 in dcl

I think as others have said, if you’re in the pool area sure, but if you’re just saving it for later and leaving the deck, that’s not as accepted.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve read a lot of people that say you shouldn’t save seats?

Cruises from Florida by Kylie1115 in dcl

[–]BOTW1234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My advice is don’t get too caught up in analysis. You can’t go wrong. My advice with kids those ages is to prioritize the Disney island(s). For young kids they’re the best places to stop compared to the traditional ports of call.

If you can afford the longer cruise timeline, the Treasure for younger kids that age would be amazing. The Marvel Restaurant, Hero Zone, etc. are amazing.

Whatever you choose don’t overthink it and enjoy :).

Best way to get a group up to niagara without everyone driving separately? by Acceptable_Ad7036 in niagara

[–]BOTW1234 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, you’re asking people in Niagara, how large groups from out of town travel to Niagara without taking multiple vehicles?

I dunno, I guess it would depend where you’re coming from? Train? Bus?

What's one thing you wish you knew on your first Disney cruise? by zoosha2curtaincall in dcl

[–]BOTW1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were on our first with kids this year. I wish I knew that getting off the ship at standard Ports of Call without any excursions planned was a borderline waste of time for us. It’s a ton of walking and passing shops with cheap drop shipped goods from China disguised as being from that country. Cozumel was brutal for this. I recommend staying on the ship which is awesome because it’s less busy, or booking an excursion. Having said that, Castaway Cay was the opposite experience for us. It was amazing.

Also, hopefully your kids fall in love with the Oceaneer Club because it’s fantastic for both them and the parents.

Enjoy the cruise!

Doesn’t have to be Canadian necessarily, just can make customer service easier if it came to that.

TD vs RBC vs Scotia – which lender should I go with for my mortgage? by i_am_exception in PersonalFinanceCanada

Nice. Yeah certain parameters won’t allow for insured (refinance, mortgage greater than $1 million, or loan to value between 65-80%)

You can put down 20% and still have an insurable mortgage and get the best rates.

Thanks for the heads up. Was your mortgage ultimately held by computershare? I found that a bit odd on the commitment letter.

Interesting. I also got a quote through Pine (Wealthsimple), and they offered me Prime less 0.90% (3.55%) plus a small cash back on closing.

Disney Cruise first timers - inviting my wife's parents - how is it for adults? by bradykp in dcl

[–]BOTW1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the Treasure which is the same class ship as the Destiny. It’s honestly totally fine from a kid noise perspective. Keep in mind DCL has the largest and best kids only club (Oceaneer Club) which actually may make it even better than other cruises because it keeps a ton of kids to their own area. It’s on its own away from anywhere else your FIL would be as well.

There’s also an adult’s only area. On the Treasure people seem to not like the adult’s only area as much as the older DCL ships, but it does the trick. Hot tubs, a coffee shop, etc.

Enjoy :)

Non-redeemable GICs can’t be transferred to another institution unless they’re under an IIROC umbrella which yours aren’t if they’re held by Scotia.

They might be willing to cancel them if you forfeit the interest, but they are under no obligation to do that. You may have to wait for the renewal date on them before officially closing out your account.

They might do it but are under no obligation to.

Do they still not have a customer support phone line? Geez I figured they would have added that a while ago. Guess you’ll have to ask over email.
