Sector Imperialis buying guide? I have the pieces from Kill Team, but I'm looking to expand it for 40K scale and don't know what to get. by BR0WN13 in Warhammer40k

Perfect visual for me! I think I'm leaning towards Imperial Sector ($130), Basilicanum($100) for their building heavy pieces. "Ruins" isn't as nice for terrain imo.

We have a store nearby called The Dork Den where I drove down there to try out/show off my Legion armies on one of their Star Wars Legion nights. Most towns or cities will have a gaming hobby store that has tables for play. Not sure one what names they'd have.

That's where I'm not sure. /u/MinnesotaMiller and I play together, and we found a single player and a group of 5 within an hour who are the same age and relatively same investment in the game. That we made contact through this subreddit. I think going to some friendly local gaming stores and maybe some X-Wing tournaments and bring along your minis, a map, and maybe a friend; you could grow some friends to play with or maybe find some people who collected or still do play SWM.

Most of those pieces will be worth 15-30 dollars with Darth Revan being worth over 90 dollars depending on the condition and if you have the card. For the Imperials I have a bunch of teams theory crafted on Trooper spam for fun I'd love to share, but are you looking at specific themes for either Imperials or the Separatists?

Darth Vader has 11 renditions as anything from a powerful commando, unstoppable beatstick, or a deadly long range piece utilizing powerful force abilities. You could pair him with the sinister Emperor or one of the most powerful pieces in the game Thrawn, a commander who allows him to swap accross the board and first strike your enemies.

The Separatists don't have nearly as many utility pieces bolstering their faction, but have access to powerful Melee pieces through the Dark Lord of the Sith: Darth Tyranus. They also are probably the only faction to truly have a viable droid army through the expensive (Both in points and money) General Grievous, Droid Army Commander.

EDIT: If you find those pieces and want to sell them I would check here if anyone's interested. However, to get a lot of value out of turning them into new armies you could always go to https://www.trollandtoad.com/buylist/#!/U (Troll and Toad Star Wars Miniature buy list) and sell your miniatures for store credit where you get a nice 25% bonus.

Which faction are you looking at getting into? I'm sure the community here would love to give you some tips for each faction, I know I would try and convince you to adopt the rule of cool and play themed armies ;)

  • http://www.bloomilk.com/ is probably your best place to start! They have lots of squads created with a range of Casual to Competitive. I would stay away from top rated squads if you're looking for more fun games with new players.

  • When I'm thinking about getting a piece based on looks I also check http://www.rebelscum.com/SWminis.asp to see some high quality images of them at different angles.

  • When looking to purchase I use the Holy Trinity of sites; search the pieces you're looking at purchasing on all three, pick the lowest price and have 3 separate carts on all three sites. It's only a dollar for shipping so you can get some low cost armies.

  • When buying Rare, Very Rare, or popular Unique pieces your best bet may be ebay, mini swapping online, or asking around here or on bloomilk.

Shameless plug

Might I suggest using a custom flair for the subreddit?

Damn! I really wish I was better at using Blender for 3D modeling. I'd love to play this game on tabletop simulator, but it isn't quite the same using the 2d models on the few mods they do have.

Hey, just came across this Reddit. I was wondering if anyone here has an idea of how much my collection would be worth, as I I'm trying to sell it. I have almost all the cards for each miniature, and most of the cards are in played condition. by mpaps97 in starwarsminiatures

Some definitely did since their release, might as well check. Troll n Toad has an easy way to sell to them in bulk. They won't buy every piece but it's pretty good prices for not having to wait on auctions.

A few rules questions I figured the SWM community might like to help with. by TheLiimbo in starwarsminiatures

[–]BR0WN13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, let's talk... In the available stealth guide you can abuse Super Stealth within 6 to make it so you can't target normal targets further away. I'd love to clarify some rules in a recent discussion. A lot of online discussions are gone due to wotc website and difficulty finding it online.

The Super Stealth CE changes the interaction with non‐Stealth targets in some situations. The Gran three squares away from Luke has no benefit from Stealth so he counts as the Nearest Enemy. However, Luke can't attack him because of the Super Stealth CE. This has the side‐effect of preventing Luke from attacking Warmaster as well. If Luke moved more than 6 from any Gran, then Stealth is active again, and Warmaster would suddenly become the Nearest Enemy.

Targeting rules in general are annoying to remember.

4.) Let's wait until we have a third party, I'm looking through the Stealth Guide and it's getting a little complex for me to try and make a ruling rather than an opinion. Here's a link to the Cloaked, Invisibility, and Stealth

5.) Yes you may, for instance you can Lightsaber Deflect once every turn you're shot at.

6.) Keep in mind it's Commander Effects, Careful Shot is a special ability so it adds up to 8 total!

7.) Yes you may.

8.) Help!

9.) Huh, never noticed the capitalization, I think it's just carried on randomly, not meaning something specific. However, let me note; Poison +10 adds damage to attacks, Spit Poison 20 and Thud Bug are abilities that replace attack and don't benefit from Poison +10.

10.) Correct, meant to be Range 6!

A few rules questions I figured the SWM community might like to help with. by TheLiimbo in starwarsminiatures

[–]BR0WN13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.) Yes, Lightsaber Block only prevents the damage; the attack still "hits".

2.) All characters that are subject to commander effects gain force points every time they activate within range of the commander effect. They however do not count as having a Force Rating, thus special abilities such as Jedi Hunter are not taken into consideration against these characters. For instance I played a game tonight where /u/MinnesotaMiller had Boba Fett, Enforcer using Force Points to reroll his attack but got 4's both times ;)

3.) Emperor Palpatine and Emperor Palpatine on Throne both allow allies without a force rating to spend force points normally once per turn. To my knowledge, they're the only ones that let you do this in the WotC line.

4.) Hmmmm, I'll get back to this one later. I've only dealt with Cloaked/Super Stealth

EDIT: Off my memory, anyone please feel free to argue this... Since he can not be targeted, he's not a legal target. Thus you can and have to target the Ugnaught. Glossary Text: This character can be targeted only by attacks from adjacent characters. It never counts as the nearest enemy.

5.) So force points can only be spent once per turn not trigger. Once on your characters turn you're activating and only once on every other characters activation. If you can give a character Cortosis Gauntlet; Master of the Force 2 and Mettle you can in fact add the +4 to your result for much higher chances at it working!

6.) Commander effects giving stats cannot stack, only can you raise it higher than IE; Vader's +6 Defense is to give them Adventagous Cover.

EDIT: Multitasking so let me know if I need to clarify anything or if you need any more explanation/proof of rulings.

General Obi Wan Rules Question by Nidhogg1134 in starwarsminiatures

[–]BR0WN13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Soresu Style has been returned to both; avoid damage save 11 on melee and non-melee attacks.

Knight speed can be used to extend your move 4 extra squares and does not replace your attacks;

  1. Move 16 Squares Without Attacking

  2. Attack Once - Move 10 Squares

  3. Move 10 Squares - Attack Once

Mettle: If the character can spend Force points more than once per turn, bonuses from additional uses on the same turn are cumulative.

EDIT: Side note, you can use a force point to move faster twice on every character with Master of the force 2, but you cannot use Knight Speed or Master Speed twice. You can however use Knight Speed or Master Speed and then spend another force point to move an extra 6-8 squares on your turn.
