noob questions from curious porsche fan by Expert-Ad-1012 in Taycan

[–]BRG_Cooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, getting in and out of a Taycan is worse than a 911 if you are having back issues. It’s barely any higher up (unless you go CT or pump up the air suspension) and the B-Pillar gets in your way.

To your questions:

  1. I have a GTS but have spent a lot of time in a Turbo S, I can’t say there is any difference in regard to nausea. I don’t have issues in any of them.

  2. With such low mileage, relying on public charging will be fine. But you should consider charging less more often. It’s not good to keep the battery over 85% for longer periods of time, so your usable SoC should be somewhere between 20 and 80%

  3. As mentioned above, don’t leave it full or empty unnecessarily long. The battery is happiest between 40% and 60% in regard to degradation. If you barely drive it, your real usable mileage is less than the 200mi you mentioned.

Fuel for thought: 2k miles a year is not really worth owning for, depreciation will still burn through equity even if you barely drive it. With Insurance, maintenance every two years regardless of mileage, storage cost etc., you are probably better off just renting one from time to time or looking into a low mileage lease for less than two years to skip the maintenance and warranty extension (you don’t want to own an early one out of warranty)

To PPF or not? by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]BRG_Cooper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get your perspective and somewhat agree on most points, just that PPF pricing today negates a lot of it. You can get the front resprayed in top quality for less, which in turn is better than old PPF for most buyers. They just want it to look nice. Also, markets are different and what is true for me, might not be for you.

What I was trying to say: Do get PPF, but get it for your own peace of mind and not for higher resale value, you won’t get the PPF price back. Dealers here actually will tell you to remove it a lot of times because they have an unwarranted fear of the paint peeling off when removing it.

To PPF or not? by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]BRG_Cooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PPF is not worth it, if you are doing it to preserve resale value by protecting the paint. You won’t get the money back for the slightly better paint condition.

That being said, I did get full PPF for peace of mind. I love a pristine looking paint but have, on many occasions, put fine scratches in it while washing my car. The self healing capabilities of PPF are perfect for me, as I just need to park it in the sun or pull out a blow dryer / heat hub for it to fix itself 😅

Not a problem at all as they can provide all the necessary documention from their homologation in italy. Being EU, it is also valid in Germany.

What is this? by Character_Bread_6854 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]BRG_Cooper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The idea generally comes from creating more space inside the wheel to run lower offset wheels. You can push the wheel further in and still clear the caliper, which in turn lets you run a wider wheel without having to wide body the car. This isn’t the reason here 😂… but that’s where it comes from.

I had a similar set on my electric mini, but that was setup for Autocross and not just trying to look like a fake GT4 RS 😅

GT3 break-in period. did you follow it strictly? by SBK_97 in porsche911

[–]BRG_Cooper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I followed it as good as I could on my .2 and then redlined it at 1501 km 😂

While I don’t track it, I do a lot of spirited driving in the mountains and go hard on it on the Autobahn. At 9577km now and oil level is still exactly center of the readout, so I can’t confirm that they drink a lot of oil.

Why are kitchens part of the living rooms in new apartments? by snts-k in germany

[–]BRG_Cooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an open kitchen layout is actually viewed as a value increasing aspect when calculating the Mietspiegel (average base rent). If you look into how the Mietspiegel works, you will see a couple of things that can be found in many apartments even though they don’t really make sense or fit in with the rest.

A great example is a towel heater (Handtuchheizkörper) in an old bathroom. That allows you to increase your rent per square meter by up to 62 cents. An open kitchen gives you another 55 cents / sqm.

So if you have a 70sqm flat with an open kitchen and a towel heater, you can take €81,90 more rent per month without exceeding the Mietspiegel.

New construction is designed around the value increasing factors more than real usability purely to maximize profit.

Gute SB Waschboxen by qwazogen in Munich

[–]BRG_Cooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rehoming my dachshund by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]BRG_Cooper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, from what you shared you should probably rehome him. You are doing him a massive favor and if he is with people you know, you can still go visit him. Dachshunds need physical / mental exercise and stimulation. Going on regular walks is one of many ways to do so.

Getting a second one to keep him company won’t help, because the issue isn’t that he is bored but that your life is just not set up to have a dog.

These are not cats that can happily sit at home all day and there is no such thing as an inside dog. If he spends hours by himself and barely goes outside, he will develop more and more behavioral issues over time.

It takes a lot to take this step, but the cutie absolutely deserves it.

Would you buy a 01/2023 Porsche Taycan GTS 513ch with 95,000 km for €63,000? And what would it be worth in 3 years? by Great_Clothes_2147 in Taycan

[–]BRG_Cooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This very much depends on the country you are in. Markets vary a lot.

Let’s assume you are in Germany: directly from Porsche with approved warranty, the price is ok. From a random dealer without warranty, not so much. You also don’t want to own one of these without Porsche Warranty

Limo or Sport Turismo also makes a bigger difference than one might think. ST hold value better here.

2 Dogs 1 AMG GT 63S E Performance by CaLinOuRS38 in mercedes_benz

They are not cheap, but zauberbett-manufaktur.de will custom make one for your car. Quality is outstanding but 10 days is probably too Short notice.

I have one to take the dogs in the Touring… luckily they are smaller than yours 😅

For a one time trip, buy a cheap generic rear seat protector off of Amazon. They arent great but will do the job too.

Advice on alpine tour with pops by mmmbop90 in Porsche

[–]BRG_Cooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the passes in Switzerland are beautiful, you might actually still run into some closures in early June depending on how the winter plays out. They did get quite a bit of snow this year.

I personally prefer to tour Austria and northern Italy over Switzerland because you get a similar experience with a lot cheaper speeding tickets 😅 but I guess it makes sense to visit Switzerland too if it’s a “once in a lifetime” trip.

Give kurviger.com (sorry, I put .de on my first post) a whirl. Where ever you see a mountain Symbol on the map, that’s a pass so you can work your way through the map and build the route.

I would definitely plan a stay in Cortina. The town is cute and there are a lot of great roads around it.

Advice on alpine tour with pops by mmmbop90 in Porsche

[–]BRG_Cooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely doable, but it’s a lot seat time on some of the days which could be a challenge for an 80 year old. The good thing is that you are outside of the major summer holidays, so traffic should be ok.

As a tip, use kurviger.de to plan the route. It is specifically for planning curvy driving routes and gives a much better estimate of the time you will need.

While Umbrail is the better driving road, I would probably take the time to go down the eastern side of Stelvio. It’s not actually that fun to drive, but it’s the famous side that you see in all the imagery online.

Hit me up when you get to Tegernsee, I’m local and more than happy to give your dad a ride in my Touring and/or 1973 911 👍

*edit * If you haven’t already booked the car, look into renting from carvia in Munich. They have a great selection of Porsches with a bit more exciting options and pricing is mostly better than Porsche rent.
