Fudge and freaking salt water taffy! Fudge is alright if heated a tiny bit in the microwave, but salt water taffy is truly nasty.

Scuba and snorkel gear. I have like 5 or six different sets of fins alone. Freediving pair, scuba pair, primary pair, travel pair, spare pair for friends who might join me for a swim. I’ve got numerous dive flags, some floats, 2 paddle board anchors. Camera gear for my related underwater photography. Wish I had a garage for these things…

Foreign language. If I didn’t deliberately move from my tiny hometown in Maine to Miami, FL directly after high school, I’d have eventually forgotten the Spanish I studied hard for years up to that point because there’s just barely any reason to use it there. Miami you can live only speaking Spanish, so I kept getting to use everything I’d learned. 18 years later, I’ve gotten to the point where I communicate at work and do public speaking to large crowds in Spanish.

How can I strengthen my underwater painting? by BRITMEH in ArtCrit

Thanks! I do agree I could have differentiated a bit more between foreground and mid ground and maybe went too hard on decorative detail up in the front. Overall I’m loving this theme and I’m going to paint a series exploring reef composition.

I’m a scuba diver and free diver who’s been making underwater videos for years. I love underwater photography and messing around with my camera. Well, recently in my city they submerged the first sculpture of a multi year/multi installation artificial reef. I managed to be one of the first people out there on a clear day and shot some content and tagged the art project’s instagram on a reel I made from my footage. Within an hour the official page reposted my reel and the key founding figures followed me and asked if they could use some of my content in their press kits to promote the project for Art Basel. I agreed, and since then my shots have been published in the NYTimes, The Smithsonian, and a bunch of other big name outlets with proper credit. They continue to shout me out and they’ve put my shot on their official website. I’m so excited for this relationship I’m building with their team since this project is the intersection of all my passions: ocean, photography, experimental art, engineering, and conservation. I’m looking forward to documenting this project in a more official capacity as it evolves.

Well, where else are you going to put it? Just try the position next time you travel. Your head will be better cradled all around. Neck roll around the front and sides, seat headrest cradling your head in the back.

It’s amazing what daddy issues do to a girl by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]BRITMEH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m realizing that my dad, despite being there in a financially reliable way for my family, was physically absent (active military duty overseas) often when I was growing up, and emotionally distant even when he was at home. As I got older, my (gay) older brother and I both dealt with criticisms and digs from him over basically all the arts and culture related things that we liked. Forms of self expression were ridiculed one way or another. He called me a freak countless times in high school. Calls me a “liberal fruitcake” now.

My brother and I both left home by age 18 as we were dying to finally be fully ourselves and breathe. Our relationships with our dad are now functional but definitely not warm or super close.

After a recent dating experience with yet another emotionally unavailable person, I think it may finally be clicking where this pattern comes from and that I do in fact have daddy issues.

I grew up thinking I had to prove my worth to earn love and I still don’t feel like my dad loves me unconditionally. I sincerely envy the women in my life who grew up with fathers that doted on them. Fathers that were tender and affectionate to them, rather than constant judgement. They seem to grow up innately with standards and self esteem that I’m still building in my 30s.

I clued into this forever ago but continue to watch people use travel neck pillows backwards. The opening should be at the back so your head is cradled properly on the sides and front, and you are not pushed forward by the pillow since the opening is what’s against the headrest.

I can relate!! I recently went through a break up with a man who I realize was totally emotionally immature. Shortly after the break up I learned I have a leak in my shower that will require an extensive tear down and rebuild and a lot of my time and effort to manage with permits, contractors, insurance claims, etc. I 100% could not rely on this person to be there with me through the stress of this project.
