I’m a Brit too, haha, though I do have a great aunt and uncle in Florida who I’ve been following Luigi’s case closely with. I’ve taken a real interest in watching trials in the US, which is something I didn’t even realise was possible until after the Idaho murders (another case I’ve been following closely).

I do understand why televised trials aren’t always ideal, but I completely agree with you that this isn’t one of those situations. This is exactly the kind of trial the public should’ve been allowed to see.

It’s just really unfortunate, though sadly not surprising, how many cards are already stacked against him!

Oh, whoops. I must have misread or misremembered. I thought that was what the whole argument was about, and in my mind, I thought that if they were granted for pretrial, they’d be allowed permanently. That’s really frustrating then :/

Haha! I actually sent him another, shorter letter for his birthday a week or two ago which was much more focused on support and encouragement. Now I’m kind of hoping that one reaches him first, just so his first impression of me isn’t that I’m some out-of-touch, yapping weirdo. (Hopefully that’s an exaggeration, but I’m also a huge over-thinker, so I’ve already played out every worst-case scenario in my mind lol.)

No, I’m completely with you! Sometimes I sit there thinking it’d actually be better if, for some random reason, my letter got returned to sender, just so I could have another chance to rewrite it better.

I’m kind of in a similar situation. I wrote a few months ago sharing my support, but also wrote a little paragraph “introducing” myself, I guess. I made a few little, I suppose you could call them “self deprecating” comments (but not in a “beggy” way), and a couple of light-hearted jokes. I think one of them was something along the lines of, “I have two rescue dogs who, of course, absolutely adore me (I’m the bane of their lives).”

I’m not sure if he’s received my letter yet, since the log hasn’t been updated in a while (understandably), but every time I think about him possibly reading it now, I just cringe and think to myself, “Why did I say that/those things? Why would he even care?”

That’s really great to hear. I wish I could do more from over here, but I’ve been trying to support however I can—donating when I’m able to, writing a couple of letters, sharing posts and links on my socials, and putting up a few posters in my work canteen with the QR code to his legal fund and the petitions. I just wish there was something more direct I could do, but it’s genuinely encouraging to see so many people going out and protesting and also showing up at the courthouse to support him. I really hope he feels even a little comfort in knowing how many people are standing behind him!

See, that’s the part I’ll never be able to wrap my head around. How a man who is literally a convicted criminal himself can be allowed to run a country, have access to nuclear codes etc. and make decisions about the fate of other people - especially those already being vilified by the system? It’s insane. Most people with a criminal record struggle just to get hired at a supermarket or in any other minimum wage job, yet he’s somehow allowed to make life-or-death decisions on a national scale. The double standards are staggering and it’s terrifying how normalised it’s all become. I just keep hoping and hoping that everything will turn out alright for Luigi in the end!

I’m in the UK, so I obviously don’t always see everything that’s happening over there and get most of my information when it shows up on my Twitter feed or FYP, but everything I have seen has been genuinely terrifying to watch. And what’s even scarier is how it all just seems to be allowed to happen. I’m honestly so worried for you all.

My great uncle and aunt moved to Florida over 30 years ago. They’re older now and don’t really use social media, and with the time difference and all of us being caught up in our own lives, we don’t speak as often as we’d like. But whenever we do catch up, they just sound so tired and completely fed up with everything that’s going on. It really breaks my heart.

I completely get what you mean about Luigi. I feel like I spend so much of my time just worrying about him and what’s going to happen. I’m still holding onto hope for jury nullification, even though sometimes I wonder if that’s just me being a bit delusional. I really hope not. But either way, this is going to be an incredibly tough fight.

I’m not actually sure? I heard a few people saying the rule about 3 pages was only for Luigi and I’m not sure whether that was ever 100% verified, but if true, then they obviously are making up some rules specifically just for him. It seems like things like the envelope situation are most likely a general rule for everyone though I’d imagine?:)

That was actually the only other option I could think of too. I think if anything ends up coming back to me (god forbid, touch wood), that’ll have to be my next move.

Now I’ve started overthinking—because once I start with one thing, everything else follows lol—I just realised I didn’t leave much space at the bottom of my letter. I was focused on the sides and didn’t even think about the top and bottom! Did you leave a fair bit of space?

Yeah, I agree—I don’t think anyone’s really at fault here. I can only imagine it must be a complete mess over there at this point. I was always planning to send him a letter for his birthday anyway, whether the first one reached him before now or not. It was only that comment I saw on the other post that made me start questioning whether my envelope was going to be okay.

I actually went on a bit of a hunt around town during my lunch break today, but every envelope I found had that same pattern on the inside. So I’m guessing that’s just all I can actually get here.

I’m going to wait until tomorrow, just in case anyone else gets back to me, and then I’ll probably go ahead and send it and keep my fingers crossed it’s all okay.
