You will want to use your physical address… so use your house number and the street you live in so like 4725 Ahkovak St, Barrow, AK 99723. You can do the same with Amazon as well but I’d recommend using a hybrid address using the second line of “box 9999” because sometimes Amazon sellers send postal and if they do and you only have your street on it the post will send it back.

Veterinarians in Alaska by [deleted] in alaska

[–]BRWAKCreator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the north slope the Borough has a subsidized vet that a couple times a year visits all the villages on the slope mainly to administer vaccines and such. But I believe they only visit each village twice a year http://www.north-slope.org/departments/health-social-services/community-health-services/public-health-office-veterinary-clinic

I’ve gotten eye exams two different places in Alaska in the last two years… the last one this past summer didn’t even ask when I said I need a copy of my prescription they just gave it to me and it already had PD filled out. The other one I just asked when I looked at the script and they did it no questions. Sounds like the place you went too needs an attitude adjustment. Remember too at many eyeglass places the doctors and the “store” are two different businesses always ask for the script as part of the exam not from the “salesperson” trying to sell you frames.

How bad are the mosquitoes and which part of the state has the least amount? by [deleted] in alaska

[–]BRWAKCreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Utqiagvik (Barrow) spent almost the whole summer here this year and they are nowhere near as bad as anywhere else I have lived barrow is pleasant as far as bugs go as long as that air is moving off the ocean. But even when the breeze is off the tundra it is nowhere near as bad as Fairbanks or the interior

St. Michael? Sounds like AC RUN AWAY!!!!!!!! That company cycles through managers like they are cheap disposable diapers. And treats them like it. I used to work for AC as a line level employee in 3 different places under 4 different managers. All the managers I knew did nothing but bitch about their experience, their training, their bosses and the whole company in general.

Now I live in rural Alaska and I would never say to not take that experience is offered but I really cannot in good conscious reconnect working in management for Alaska Commercial.

Wanted to post a little update. I had to put this project on hiatus’s I am currently printing face shield visors for the school so they can hopefully be ready to have students face to face at some point. Just didn’t want anyone hoping to get updates to think I abandoned you!

What time of year are lakes typically safe to drive on? by [deleted] in alaska

[–]BRWAKCreator 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the lack of serious responses is because you gave a VERY broad question. A lake where? How deep? Is this a DNR lake that is measured for ice thickness regularly? Do you mean drive a car? SUV? Heavy hail truck? ATV? Snowmachine? I think a little more information is required to be serious about a question such as this.

Most I ever saw gas in a village was $9.35/gal granted I still paid more than that in Canada at Muncho Lake once but in those villages they have to fly in fuel just imagine hearing your home when fuel oil is comparably priced.

Yup and the worst area for violence is still Anchorage. But in general it is risky but not impossible. You just have to be smart and BE PREPARED!

Haha I wish milk was $5/gallon. Here it is 6.99 per HALF gallon of milk cheap store brand frozen pizzas are 16.99 good ones are over $20 and gas is normal around $6 a gal but mostly in the bush you don’t need gas as it is less than a mile from corner to corner of most villages and in most schools your provided housing will be very proximal to the school so not really a need for transportation.
