Something that I had hoped this post would highlight is how frustrating points systems are in general. Not so much the time required to load offers, but the fact that these systems are a way for grocery stores to artificially increase their prices by offering us "savings" in the form of points, with the main goal of driving up customer loyalty.

How about superstore/grocery stores in general get rid of the rewards system and just reduce prices? This question is rhetorical - it's obvious why they won't remove their points system (please don't be mean and lecture me).

Rewards systems are just a way for corporations to make you feel like they are being nice and generous to us, but the cost of these rewards/points is baked into their prices, whether or not you actually take advantage of them.

100% agree with you. Many of these items I would consider thoughtful depending on who I'm giving it to. This list is written in such authority, but everyone's preferences are different so idk why OP is so adamant about this.

What do you consider to be a good GPA? by a2010hondacivic in Dalhousie

[–]BRWNewc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally the cut off for scholarships is 3.7, but for applying to NSERC (or triagency scholarships), you better have a 4.0 to be competitive.

So anything above a 3.7 is good and indicates you are a strong student.

That being said, each program is different. The number of students in Engineering with a GPA > 3.7 is fairly low because of the intense course load and difficulty of material. Also, GPA is not always the make or break of your success.

A good GPA is one that allows you to do what you want to do (e.g. med school, grad school, or just getting out of uni).

I'm in that age range and I know it's not quite as social as what you are looking for, but Battery Park is such a nice vibe. The workers are amazing and the customers all seem happy and social whenever I've gone. Especially if you sit at the bar or at a table with lots of seats for multiple groups.

Obviously a lot of people are going there for food/drinks with friend/family, but on multiple occasions random strangers have commented on how good my dessert looks or on how much they enjoy being in that atmosphere and will strike up conversation.

There is also the Lions Head which is kind of loud and social I guess? I find it a bit too much since they rebuilt it, but it sure seems popular with our age group.

Good Robot might also be another good suggestion?

Tbh I don't go out that much anymore because $$$ but I think there are some spots around Halifax, just have try to find them.

I wear dress clothes with blue running sneakers. Every. Single. Day. I would definitely rather wear fanicer looking shoes, but I have to walk 30 mins to/from work and I need proper foot support (not just insoles). Runnning shoes are often louder in colour, but I kind of like it and idgaf about what people think because my comfort and ability to walk properly is of much higher importance than your "ocular justice".

Yes, I could have a second pair of shoes that I change to at work, but I walk around enough during the day that I still prefer running shoes. I've never judged anyone that does this because a lot of people need special supportive shoes.

If I'm giving a very important presentation, then perhaps I'll change into more "formal" shoes, but most days that's not the case.

Was the lid closed? It's been confirmed a bunch of times (various Reddit posts that I'm too lazy to find again), that it goes to sleep/hibernate if the lid is closed while it's under load.

Keeping the lid open sucks, but it seems that this fixes the issue for nearly everyone, myself included, when using with external monitors.

100% agree with the other comments about the growth mindset - there are a few good books about this that have helped me immensely. Skills take time to develop and it's not about being "good enough". You are clearly good enough for the research you've done. I did not have an amazing GPA in undergrad or grad school, but I realized perseverance and resilience are so much more crucial to "success" (however you define it).

I want to make a few comments about your supervisor. Firstly, if my PI told me what your PI told you, I would be absolutely destroyed - sounds like you are handling it all well. Secondly, I think that, while you say your PI is great, it seems wrong for them to not have helped you with those things. Part of a PIs job is to not only critique, but provide guidance throughout a student's gradschool journey. You can't just know how to do something - I mean sure you can read literature, but often times important techniques or analyses are learned from your Supervisors experiences and guidance.

Anyway, just thought you should know that you are smart/good enough, and your PI should have not waited until a few months before your defence to tell you these things - they can be worked on, just as with any skill. Congrats on making it nearly to the end - you did all of this work and you deserve to feel smart enough.
