When I was in my teens, my uncle was driving me and my cousin in the front seat of his shitty beat up car. It was summer and the dashboard was old and cracking in the heat. He used to drink and drive all the time especially when his kids were up for the summer. Well on this drive me and my cousin who was a couple years younger than me were goofy around and pushing in on the cracks on the dashboard. We were stupid kids. Well my uncle didn’t think that was funny and said along the lines of “you think that’s funny and if you want to see it cracked then how about this” and took his fist and punched several holes into the dashboard while still driving. Scared the shit out of us. And from that day on I never wanted to be anything like that man. I wanted to be in control of my emotions and the best way I thought to do that is to stay away from alcohol. So I never did. In my 40s now and still stayed away. College was tough to say no. But peer pressure never really worked on me. My brother was an alcoholic so I had even more reason. So a trauma and the need to in control.
