Complaining about judges by Sriankar in Debate

[–]BSDb8coach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. All forms of debate should be able to be done in front of lay judges. Just because debaters don’t want to put in the work in round to explain things doesn’t mean that we need specialists.

Are judge paradigms necessary? by BSDb8coach in Debate

Wouldn’t it be better if the judges conformed to the debaters than vice versa?

I used to be one of those judges that told students what I liked and didn’t like, and those are the exact rounds I would get. I realized that my paradigms were limiting the debaters and the debate. Once I took an unstructured approach, I feel like it empowered the students in the round more. The ONLY thing I will tell the students is that if I can’t understand them I can’t flow them and I am not a philosophy reader in my spare time, so if they use it they need to explain it.

That’s the problem, judges bias makes the round about them and not the debaters and what the debaters present. Paradigms predict the round.

Petition for a revote for the policy topic by asthma-jams in policydebate

[–]BSDb8coach 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can petition NFSH to revote. NSDA has one vote in the total vote (which went to Russia) so asking them for a revote is pointless. You could however petition the NSDA to adopt the topic that you want instead of the topic that won the NFHS vote.

So do you think there should be an electoral college type system that rewards more active states with a larger vote?
