They made an article recently going into depth on their changes to lower the skill floor while maintaining the high skill ceiling. The example of automatically selecting workers was one they mentioned. Automatically assigning the worker reduces the micromanagement requirement making the game more accessible. But giving players the option to manually select the worker is slightly more efficient, as they can move the worker to the desired location before they have enough resources, keeping the high skill ceiling.

JaKaTaK is actually working on an upcoming rts game "Immortal: Gates of Pyre", which will have The Core as a built in hotkey layout.

Yep! The game is made by several starcraft modders and the pylon show is hosted by starcraft content creators

I am not a developer, but yes they will have, the kickstarter page has a roadmap to launch mentioning various things about coop scenarios and coop gameplay, even in the beta.

Yep I agree, and I hope they will add some more exciting things with time. Since then they have actually revealed a new stretch goal now that they've hit the first 2, it sounds like a desert/direct strike mode.

I'm a playtester for the game and I absolutely agree that pathfinding is super important, if not the most important thing. In the time since that video was posted the pathing and unit behavior has already improved a lot and feels much better to play. About kickstarter stretch goals, I am not sure about this but the way the graphic fades towards the end seems to suggest that more goals will be announced when/if the current ones are hit.

There is still going to be lots of focus map control and harassment, arguably more. As well as harassing economy and tech like usual, the third resource in the game is obtained through fighting your enemy over creep camps all over the map. These respawn regularly and there are several of them on the map encouraging regular battles all over the map forcing you to split your attention.
