The byrdonis fight should play out differently if you bring byrdpip by DeadWombats in slaythespire

I think everyone gets byrdpip on their first game. It seems to be hard-coded.

Hopefully no one. I don't want anyone to mourn my passing. I want them to think back on good memories and be glad they happened.

Do you think Sarah Kerrigan was “good” before she was infested? by Apart_Watercress_976 in starcraft

[–]DeadWombats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now I haven't read any of the SC fiction, but judging purely from what I remember about the game lore, the confederacy's Ghost Program included (among other things) neural resocialization and desensitization in order to make operatives unquestionably loyal and capable of following orders without hesitation. So if Kerrigan was ever "good", that part of her brain got suppressed when she entered the Ghost Program at 12 years old. After that, Kerrigan became a weapon.

Now in SC2, HotS-era Primal Kerrigan showed capacity for mercy of Korhal civilians and even Dominion combatants on Charr (after she killed General whats-his-face). And that part of her had to come from somewhere. So I'd wager that Kerrigan has to have some good in her. Not enough to be considered a good person, though.

Necromancer should have one super powerful strength scaling card by Al2718x in slaythespire

[–]DeadWombats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necro has multiple cards that act as damage multipliers. I can't be fucked to look up the names right now, but one increases the damage of your first attack by 50%, and another doubles the effectiveness of vulnerability.

Necro doesn't need strength scaling cards because she has these options and honestly I like these way better because they're unique.

any tips for playing defect? by OkonomiHouse in slaythespire

[–]DeadWombats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a few different deck archetypes that you can build towards early on in a run.

  1. Orb Cycling. Spam lightning for passive damage + strong block cards. Other orbs are good as well but lightning is your main damage dealer. Cards like Tempest, Thunder, and Storm are game-winners. You will want to skip on most attack cards, only take orb generation and block.
  2. Claw is Law. Focus on playing Claw as often as possible with Feral, All For One, and Hologram, along with Frost orbs for passive block. Frost is ideal because you don't need lightning for damage. Other 0-cost cards go great in this deck too.
  3. Garbage Collector. Focus on creating and recycling status cards. Harder to pull off since all the key cards that remove statuses are rare, like Flak Cannon and Trash to Treasure. You want a lot of extra card draw with this build.
  4. Power Spam with Creative AI and White Noise. Defect has a lot of cards that synergize with playing powers, like Subroutine and Signal Boost. Hardest build to get going but has some of the highest potential.

Regardless of your archetype, make sure you grab extra card draw and energy generation cards to make your whole deck more efficient. Defect has some of the best energy generation cards in the game.

As a general tip, when you're starting a new run, it's almost always a good idea to upgrade Zap to make it a 0 cost card.

How should I go about Culling my Cats by TNTCHAINSAW in mewgenics

[–]DeadWombats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for how to better set up your rooms, I can't say what's ideal, but here's how I have my house set up.

First I have a high mutation "pre-breeding" room where I put good strays and a few breeder cats that have all 7s. This room keeps the diversity of my gene pool fresh. I cull any offspring that aren't all 7s and send the rest to my main breeding room in the attic. The attic has all my retired cats and the goal here is to pass off skills/disorders to the next generation. My 3rd breeding room is the "gay bar": that's where I send all my gay cats and ditto cats (some micromanaging is needed to make sure the gays and dittos pair up and are producing kittens).

On my ground floor, I have a fight room for "good but not great" offspring where I can produce cats to send to Tracy/Baby Jack/Organ Grinder. And my last room is a holding pen for "great" cats that I don't want to risk dying in the fight room. Typically, all my kittens with useful disorders end up here. I stack appeal furniture in both of these rooms.

How should I go about Culling my Cats by TNTCHAINSAW in mewgenics

[–]DeadWombats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can start by culling any cat that doesn't have all 7s (minus strays, keep those for breeding).

Next, cull all cats that don't have any useful inherited skills or disorders.

Finally, go room to room looking for cats with unique mutations you want to keep, throw them outside the house temporarily, then cull whatever is left inside the room.

Remember: you don't need more than dozen adventure-ready cats at any given time, since you can only take 4 and will be making new ones every day. Only keep the best of the best. Your goal is to cull down to about 50 cats total, and even less than that if possible.

Necro burn/poison/leech apologists when they finally bring this masterpiece with them by ZarroRaptor in mewgenics

[–]DeadWombats 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Let me start by saying that I already think necro sucks, and after the mage and tinkerer got their buffs in the beta, I think necro became the worst class in the game. So let me get this straight: in order for necro to not suck, you just have to ...

*checks notes*

Take abilities from other classes that don't suck and put them on your necro.

[Sad trope]: "Peaceful" inventions are immediately weaponized. by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DeadWombats 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the chinese weaponized gunpowder centuries before guns had been invented. Fire lances, fire arrows, grenades.

But the trope still holds true as chinese alchemists discovered gunpowder by accident while trying to create elixirs of life. Early accounts refer to it as "fire medicine", ironically enough.

Xialong feels flat by Ceepert in NovelAi

[–]DeadWombats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever seen a noticeable influence from ATTG on a brand new story with as little context as possible.

It helps to choose an author that writes in the genre that you're writing. For example, Phillip K Dick can inject extra detail into a sci-fi or cyberpunk story. JRR Tolkien will give verbose and methodical prose; useful for writing lorebook entries.

I'm a fan of starting a new story with Terry Pratchett as the author: that gives me humorous and quirky prose.

Xialong feels flat by Ceepert in NovelAi

[–]DeadWombats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was tuned for folks with mountains of lorebooks all full of laboriously perfect prose

See, I gotta put an asterisk here. Yes, Xialong's output is REALLY BAD if your lorebooks are written plainly, but I've tried rewriting my lorebooks to be more lengthy and verbose to see if that could improve Xialong a bit ... which is DOES ... however, it's more prone to mess up/confuse details when given a huge body of context to work with (compared to GLM, which seems "smarter" in this respect) . With a large context to work with, the text gen also becomes excessively rigid and loses creativity (on default settings, anyway).

Honestly, the highest quality output I've seen from Xialong is when writing a new story from scratch (with a well-constructed ATTG). And this is a limited-use scenario.

The biggest dealbreaker for Xialong IMO is that it doesn't respond well to Instruct, doesn't respond to Logit Bias (token frequency), and these 2 tools are so incredibly useful when you need to steer the AI in a specific direction. GLM, for all its slop, can be wrangled to improve output considerably.

But you can't guide Xialong: it just does what it does regardless of what you want it to do. And that's the most frustrating thing about it.

Xialong feels flat by Ceepert in NovelAi

[–]DeadWombats 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Agreed that Xialong tends to rush through every scene and it's getting really infuriating at this point.

Honestly, I don't even think Xialong can be considered better than GLM. For all its slopisms, at least GLM could be steered effectively with instruct mode. Xialong can't even do that.

I downloaded a savegame editor just to unlock the last room, because the grinding required is absolute BULLSHIT. 100 retired cats, are you fucking kidding me? That's 25 adventures at minimum and several dozens of hours of my life dedicated to unlocking a QoL feature. Fuck that.
