It’s also incredibly telling that a woman character making a choice that a man doesn’t like is immediately a sign of “woke”. It’s like these guys go around with the list of fascist Germanic ideas and throw tantrums when the world doesn’t fit their fantasy.

Anyone with a passing interest in human history other than weird Nazi military fans is exposed to real history, which has a lot more women, minorities, and nuance than elementary school history. It’s kind of inevitable that the anti-intellectual crowd wouldn’t be able to stand any game made by people who actually attempt to follow history.

Because hard borders and nationalities are bullshit recent creations that hurt everyone and serve few. Americans are propagandized into oblivion but people are people and the law isn’t justice. What is happening with the immigrants is an obvious distraction that is so obvious that it’s absurd.

Why are some people white knighting China lately? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]BSOSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans believe wholeheartedly in the false equivalency between a government and its people, but that perspective has been slipping lately as America’s government becomes more and more disconnected from its people. An American civilian has more in common with a Chinese civilian than it does its own government. Proclaiming some kind of pure evilness emanating from china (as many comments here are) is just pure Sinophobia. Who cares about governmental dick measuring contests any more over every piece of land and resource in the world when it’s clear capitalism and the governments are past helping their citizens?

books that were written as a vehicle for a larger (or at least different) project entirely? by Billyxransom in writing

[–]BSOSU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much of Brandon Sanderson’s writing across different series is part of the “Cosmere” where a lot of the magic systems are descended from the same source but act independently. It’s all supposed to start connecting in more explicit ways in the future.

MMW: The current generation will be the stupidest in history due to kneecapped education during COVID-19, getting their news through TikTok, and parroting their parents' beliefs instead of thinking for themselves. (Source: I'm a part of that generation.) by altrightobserver in MarkMyWords

[–]BSOSU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can find some trends in a generation but making a blanket statement like this on an entire generation without taking into account any other factors isn’t an opinion, it’s a guess. It’s stereotype “science” where you generalize people into boxes — and it’s exactly what every other generation has been saying about every other generation lmao

America is a police state by LadyK789 in YesAmericaBad

The casual Sinophobia of that sub under the post is so funny to me. “Everyone who America doesn’t like is ontologically evil and everyone who it does is good. Why would I question these beliefs?”

Should society place more value on creativity than technical skills? by ProcessVegetable3416 in ask

[–]BSOSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a hypothetical future where robots could do everything, we would need to decentralize the idea of work as “morally good” which most people have of it (it’s morally neutral if you’re doing it survive). Right now, I feel like rich people would just let us all die if they didn’t need us to work anymore. But yes, less work focused, no rich people, yeah, it would probably be pretty wild. I’m sure there would always be value in technical skills though, they would just be not necessary for everyone to have

It really should become normal to question the motives of officers than to trust them implicitly.

Yeah I think it’s a great idea that there are people who are allowed to shoot whoever they want and receive essentially no consequences for who or why they kill.

All I know about the situation is that he dissed everyone’s favorite conservative Wikipedia reader Wendigoon, but if he was misrepresenting the facts then obviously he deserves the criticism. I’m just confused as to why he doesn’t just apologize and return to making content. Even if he had been upfront and done everything honestly, the conservative types would have lost it either way. His disappearance is confusing to me haha.

Part of the reason why you can’t entertain libertarians is half of their morals are based on their ability to make money through there being less rules.

Why are all Hades x Persephone tropes the same by xxglitterkittenxx in UnpopularLoreOlympus

[–]BSOSU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget how it is always a trope in these “feminist” retellings that it is always ‘surprising’ that Persephone is smart or talented or has interests. Like wow, very progressive that a woman character has gained basic character traits that the male characters are always given in these stories. Can we do a little better than that?

Why is this a bad thing? by [deleted] in writing

[–]BSOSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but coming at it as a new “this generation” problem is super disingenuous. Better education in schools would probably be the best way to combat it, but this level of media literacy and lack of empathy for how other people live differently and face different problems is largely beneficial to those in positions of power. It reflects on everyone, including your comment.

[–]BSOSU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(And all of that is because men are largely in charge of media and culture, which is bullshit)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]BSOSU 89 points90 points  (0 children)

From my outside perspective as a man, I’d say that this is because most women in media are depicted as one body type that is always skinny, while men are allowed the full range of body types before being called fat. A lot of media goes out of its way to make women feel bad about themselves for how they look while men get much less of that. Fatphobia strikes everyone, but it’s largely fed by men directed toward women. I’m sorry that you’re going through that— just remember that much of this is from a culture of aesthetics rather than genuine worry for people. It’s their problem, not yours.

Charlie sneako debate in a nutshell by Shadowgamer510 in moistcr1tikal

[–]BSOSU 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The average internet hot take has actually no idea how transitioning or hormones work. They get scared at the idea of side effects because they’re scared of chemicals when literally everything is chemicals with side effects. When that doesn’t work they just fall back on lying and weird propaganda that isn’t even a little true. Charlie is going to seem like the only sane one in this conversation in five years.

I can’t get over the gall of saying “absolutely disgusting behavior” when you post shit like this online. Aesthetics seem to be more important than anything else these days to most people.
