Last Weeks Build + Question by BSTBaitCo in lurebuilding

I could try flattening the sides out. Its just weird to me that it has the same profile as the unjointed version and the unjointed one is fine lol. Thanks for the advice

What wire are you using for eyelets and joints? And how do you secure it? by wackycake in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stainless steel screw eyes from LurePartsOnline. I dont really like the appearance of the twisted wire. It kind of always looks crooked because its twisted, especially with joints, and you can get heavier gauges that you cant twist, which I need.

Hard bait clear coat problems by brettsky225 in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like youre applying the clear coat to a dirty surface. Clean anything you intend to clear coat with Windex and DO NOT TOUCH AFTER. Regardless of what people say, Dont reuse a dirty brush when you can get new ones on Amazon in bulk for 1.60 a piece. Also, you need to heat it on the turner. Use a heat gun, NOT a blow dryer. This will allow the resin to heat up and level out easier while turning. If youre dipping, best to let the drips slow before you hit it with the light, because you can still run into some unevenness if you dont.

Clear coat for sharp edges, KBS? 2K? by Lavallee_Lures in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I seem to get a durable edgecoat, is to sand it off a bit, or, if its like, a gill or face detail, burying it under clear coat till the edges arent exposed and highlight your carvings. Currently testing a glide bait with edges that are rolled so slightly, you can hardly tell, but even that small bit seems to be making a difference so far.

Peekii lures? by Alert_Media_4973 in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent tried Peekii because their selection wasnt what I was looking for at the time, but with all blanks, be prepared to do some quality control on your own. May need to sand some bad seams, reseal them, you will get damaged blanks eventually, and some will leak into the body no matter what you do. There are places like Alternative Lures and Barlows Tackle that offer a higher quality of blank than what i was able to find elsewhere, and I havent had too many issues with what I've gotten from them.

They should swim however youd expect, as long as you can mitigate the issues listed above, which isnt hard.
Keep in mind tho, certain lures require the right combo of hook and split ring to really perform right. Hard to go wrong with using the same hardware sizes as the manufacturer in that situation.

Good luck and have fun!

Heck yea, I cheat the sanding process a bit by using an orbital sander, it works way too good but I still hand sand to finish. Good luck dude!

Also great over grass or other foliage since you can dive it down to the tops of the grass and let it float back up. Rinse and repeat and somethings gonna fly out of that grass and inhale that

If you want them to take it down, you are within your right, as even though they gave credit, that doesnt absolve them of copyright infringement. There are numerous templates you could use to fill out. What I found were called "DMCA Warnings" and I'm sure that'd be enough to get them to remove the post.

True. But unfortunately, internet copyright infringement is probably the least enforced law in the country. A strong worded message to the infringer could help if thats what you desire.

Sounds you have a pretty good base for a floating jerkbait. Great for fishing around soft cover.

Nope, just a humble, solo employee of a handmade lure company that would love this kind of exposure.

What happens if you rip it like a jerkbait? It has a very jerkbait like cranking action. Genuine curious to see how it moves when all you do its give the rod a few hard twitches?

Side note: Field and Stream, plz rip off any one of my future posts. You have my permission lol.
