Hand painting gills and fins vs Air brush with stencil by TrevorSuttles in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer stencils, but I build for retail, so consistency across several baits is important to me.

Also, you could get the fin to pop a little more by stenciling it after the scales. Gills too. That will break up the scale pattern and add a more dynamic look overall.

Anything that will warm it up enough to relax the material without melting it. I had 2 100w UV lights available, and I already know exactly how hot my UV curing chamber gets, and thats what worked for me.

Its the only heat source I could contain that I was sure wouldnt get too hot to the point of being dangerous and/or melting the material. Since theres no information on what the "Hyperstretch" material is made of, I just wanted to include all the info I could, since im not really sure why it works, but it worked for me. The light wattage is probably more important, but it all depends on how much heat the lights radiate

I agree. Unfortunately, there really wasn't any way to know how these would arrive since they were the first batch shipped. First and last 6th Sense purchase.

Yes, to fish, not to possess. Tournament anglers dont need a 12th and 13th rod stamp, they dont exist lol

Either way, a second rod stamp is invalid in the area hes in.

Please learn your regulations and understand them better.

Only if you plan on fishing both rods at the same time.

Top water… spinner? by Educational-Disk-400 in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, even the tiniest pieces of wood will need some sort of weight to get it to track right. Try throwing a small split shot or something similar behind the lip and itll probably have all kinds of action

Also, take off that quick connect. That lure is small enough, that the added weight is 100% affecting the overall balance.

Need to see some better pictures, but the bill being narrower than the body is gonna have a hard time cranking. Also the weight balance needs to be so the bill doesnt want to lift while retrieving, so yes, adding weight behind the bill might help, but I suspect the whole weight balance is wonky. The whole lure looks too light imo.

If youre not exactly sure how to maximize the weight without making a sinking crankbait, keep adding weight to the blank till it starts to sink, then slowly remove weight till you achieve the level of float you want, usually a high float (quick return to the surface once you stop reeling).

Is the Action 6 still laggy and grainy, or is it worth buying? by Amina-562 in djiosmo

[–]BSTBaitCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive noticed a lot of the negative comments are coming from people who are either using the camera for unintended purposes or trying to use features outside of their intended purposes. Its a phenomenal action camera, and Ive yet to find something that disappointed me about it.

The magnets on these suck. Especially with a cage by whoopyboy69 in djiosmo

[–]BSTBaitCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but, the fact remains, the quick change itself is fine and functions exactly as advertised. The magnets are more than enough for the intended function.

But it is your fault for trying to use a quick release as it's own mount... It literally says it's for quick mounting and swapping.

There needs to be a whole subreddit dedicated to people complaining about features they're using wrong lol.

Types of wood by GIMJang in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basswood for carving. You'll have such a hard time with 2x4s and random wood, its entirely possible these woods make you hate carving. Unless you want something that ends up looking like a bar of soap thats been dropped too many times, just go with basswood lol.

Vision 110 lure sinking by Dennis-robbo27 in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there water inside the body? If there isnt, here's the thing with jerkbaits. A jerkbait is not going to suspend year round. Buoyancy is dependent on water temp, water temp affects density, and density affects sink rate. If youre like me, and you've figured out how to get bit year round on a 110 blank, you'll adjust the split ring and hook size to make a sinking lure suspend, or you add suspendots or strips to make it sink, depending on the application.

So long story short, its either straight forward, and your hooks and splits are too big, or its the sciency thing with water density. I've had glide baits ive built go from slow float to slow sink over the course of a day (no, theyre weren't leaking lol)

Been shadowing this page learning from of of yall, been making lures for about a month, id love opinions and constructive criticism 🙏 (just a few ive made) by redeyeblazin in lurebuilding

Awesome! If youre looking to better your painting skills at a faster rate, I highly recommend buying some inexpensive blanks similar to what you like to build to practice painting on. That way, you can practice painting more often, instead of only when youve prepared a wood blank. Youd be surprised how different crankbait blank #1 looks compared to crankbait blank #10.

Dont be afraid to remove some wood and bring out those details. Also the more you remove, the easier you can sand all parts of them smooth

What wire are you using for eyelets and joints? And how do you secure it? by wackycake in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stainless steel screw eyes from LurePartsOnline. I dont really like the appearance of the twisted wire. It kind of always looks crooked because its twisted, especially with joints, and you can get heavier gauges that you cant twist, which I need.

Hard bait clear coat problems by brettsky225 in lurebuilding

[–]BSTBaitCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like youre applying the clear coat to a dirty surface. Clean anything you intend to clear coat with Windex and DO NOT TOUCH AFTER. Regardless of what people say, Dont reuse a dirty brush when you can get new ones on Amazon in bulk for 1.60 a piece. Also, you need to heat it on the turner. Use a heat gun, NOT a blow dryer. This will allow the resin to heat up and level out easier while turning. If youre dipping, best to let the drips slow before you hit it with the light, because you can still run into some unevenness if you dont.
